dying and mayweather keeps contributing to it.

whenever we get media spotlight we have to be embarrassed by froid chicken. not only is it bad press but it's a bad look for the sport. this is why we are not covered by the media like other sports. floyd mayweather should be banned from the sport of boxing.

Boxing is weekening in the US because of PPV. All the big fights used to be on network tv, then on Premium Cable, and now on ppv. Theres a few cable channels that will allow you to see some up and commers, but they're usually in development fights, it'll be some kid 7-0 6kos against a guy whos 23-18-2 5kos, and for a hardcore fan thats exciting cause you know the 23-18 guy has given trouble to some top opposition, but Its honestly hard to get into a sport for the casual watcher if you want to see really good competition and be a fan of a fighter you have to shell out $59.95 every time they fight....

Alot of the older generation remembers fights being free on network as well, and are rightfully bitter about having to pay for them now.

Could you imagine if you had to have premium cable channels to watch NFL, then you'd have to PPV Monday Night Football, and PPV when 2 undefeated teams face off, and PPV the playoff games, and PPV the superbowl.

it'd be a huge hit to the casual fan that leaves his sunday open to have a few beers and watch some football.

These hundreds of belts that came out of nowhere is what is killing boxing, if there was only one belt per division, then we wouldnt have fighters cherry picking their way to a perfect record.

So yes, unless we unify the sport of boxing it will continue to die.

what people have to understand is that a major sport is one that is covered by the major sports media on almost a daily basis. boxing is not that sport. nfl, nba, mlb, golf and ncaa football and basketball are those sports. even the nhl isnt getting the coverage they use to but is still considered a major sport. boxing is secondary or minor along the lines of mma, soccer(in the u.s.) bowling, pool etc.

This is a good post. Boxing has become a niche sport in many ways. Put on a really great superfight, and you will always get TV time from ESPN and a million buys. But when it comes to people knowing about the good fighters who don't have commercial appeal like Dawson, Abraham, Ward, Pavlik, Martinez, Bradley, etc. etc. etc, boxing will never register with the casual fan on that level ever again.

Most people in America never watch soccer, but a bunch tune in for the World Cup.
No one cares about horse racing in America, but if a horse ever wins the first two legs of the triple crown and is going for it in his last race, you'll have a lot of people tune in and watch.

No it hasn't. UFC really hasn't had anything that marketable since UFC 100. UFC was an afterthought in America during all the Floyd-Pac negotiations. Unfortunately, Pac the ducker didn't want that fight. Can't blame him I guess.

I think everyone on thios board could come up with a viable and seincible way to manage boxing in such a way that it would grow and improve.

but that would take money out of the pockets of to many powerful people so it will never happen.

                    Boxing will never die.

                    Superfights come and go.

But true fans will always keep the sport alive.
