They attempted to get a fight with Mayweather after both won their fights (Hatton, Mosley) and Floyd retired. Margarito was the next best option as far as being a top dog in the division goes.

Cotto just fought the #1 Fighter in the World in Pacquiao, and simply lost.

****, Shane Mosley (one of the WW champs) can't even get a fight with Mayweather and he's a shareholder of GBP.

I think Cotto to this point has fought everyone that's made sense besides Mayweather. Not sure what else GBP would've done because they weren't going to be paying him this insane amount of money more than what Bob has already paid and will pay him until he retires.

after floyd beat hatton there was the rematch with oscar coming after that....floyd retired once that fight fell apart, and cotto was trying to get a fight with oscar.....there has NEVER been an offer made for cotto to fight floyd, nor an interest.....

Arum did a good job with Cotto.

Cotto is a star and even after he lost to Pacquiao he got a lot of recognition and respect from PI fans as well as PR fans for not quitting like De La Fishnets.

Just because Arum is a scumbag doesn't mean he's not a good promoter.

A win over Yuri Foreman means Cotto will get a title as well as some future fights with big names.

I don't think this is that bad a fight to come back with. LMW is definitely a weaker division than WW apart from a couple of names (Martinez and Williams) and Cotto is a naturally heavier guy now so the move up in weight might not be a bad thing. My main with Cotto's return will be that Joe Santiago will still be in his corner which effectively means Cotto will be running his own camp and will again not be receiving any useful advise in his corner during the fight.

He beats Foreman, he beats Spinks and he gets a mega fight with PWill for 3 straps. That is a good deal of money he stands to make before retirement. There is no need to fight Angulo, Cintron, Kirkland, etc.... The path is laid.
