Toney vs Peter on the horizon?

    BOXING BUZZ
    Peter Camp Targets Toney
Dino Duva, promoter of red-hot heavyweight Samuel “The Nigerian Nightmare” Peter, says he is outraged by the post-fight conduct and comments of new WBA Heavyweight boss James Toney and claims he has just the thing to finally shut his mouth. “Although he beat him fair and square, James Toney is a classless punk for the way he disrespected my friend and class act Johnny Ruiz after the fight,” said Duva. “If he has any balls, he will fight the top contender, Samuel Peter next, but I doubt he has the balls. If he did get in the ring with Samuel, it would give me great pleasure to watch Sam beat the hell out of him.” Peter further solidified himself as the top young heavyweight with a devastating knockout of usually durable Gilbert Martinez on Friday Night Fights last week, a day before Toney’s title-winning effort over John Ruiz. “What was his quote? Anybody, anywhere, any time? Let’s see if he really means that,” said Peter manager Ivalyo Gotzev. “Write this down,” said Duva. “I am prepared to make a very lucrative offer to James Toney and his promoters to face Samuel Peter.” If you don’t hear James Toney talking about facing Sam Peter in the next few weeks, it’s because he’s scared, just like the punk that he really is.”

I disagree with this and believe Toney shouldnt even consider Peter. What Peter showed last Friday is that he was still green and and needs more experience before being a top 10 fighter in the division.

Let Peter get about 3-5 more fights at 24 he is still young and let the other champs duke it out for unification and then Peter will get his chance....

The slick Toney would outbox and counter Peter all not with his plodding style.

How is Peter the "top contender"?

He's not even ranked by the WBA...

Toney wouldn't fight him, because the WBA wouldn't likely sanction the fight

Peter would miss 99.7% of his shows as Toney breaks the big man down to the head and body all night

Toney this early in his career? Well, I have the upmost faith in Sam. If the people around him think he is ready for Toney, he is ready. Personally I think he needs to mature a little more as a fighter but perhaps his raw attributes will be enough to negate Toney's superior skills and experience.

Either way I am excited at the possibility. My favorite heavyweight fighting my least favorite heavyweight in history. If Peter knocks him out I'll be over the moon. Even if he losses, it will be by decision and will just be another lesson for the future champion.

Those are some strong words by Dino Duva. I doubt this fight will happen but if it does it sure would be interesting.

Funny but I recall Ruiz hitting Toney with 27% of his punches, which is nearly one of every three thrown. I think Sam can do even better and unlike Ruiz's punches, the shots Peter does land on Toney will count for more than just scoring.

Raw attributes mean nothing when you are in with one of the most slickest boxers in the game who is also one of the best counter and defensive fighters.

Peter still has a lot to learn, I thought he looked like crap against Martinez and actually looked worst fighting him then he did Diaz and Williams....

This is what pisses me off about the heavyweight division...Hopefully though since Toney won, a fight with Byrd will happen and get the ball rolling for unification.

Byrd said Toney is now with Don and putting it together would be no problem.

I'd like to see this fight.
It would be interesting to see how Toney's experience & slickness plays against the larger, slower, quite raw, & very powerful Peter.

That would be the reason Toney would win, he would see his punches coming and counter them.
