            Probably because he wasn't gaining any traction in getting votes for the HOF. That, and he's apparently going to rejoin baseball as a Cardinals batting coach. But I doubt he decided to go public out of the goodness of his heart - he absolutely has motives for coming out now.

                  That was it. He didn't really have a choice after not making the HOF.

                  He could've kept quiet and penned a book about it later, but his conscience wouldn't let him rest.

                    Yeah, totally. He is back in the spotlight as the Cardinals new Hitting Coach. He'd get bombarded with the steroid accusation questions so might as well clear the air here and now before the season starts. He wants to look like the nice guy in the end but, once a cheat always a cheat.
