Ruiz isn't the best fighter, he is boring as hell, he made the most of what he had and did his best, thats more than I can say for a lot of guys..

After loosing to a loud mouth like Toney, I wouldnt stick around either, I wouldnt want to hear the **** that come out of his mouth.

I have a new respect for Ruiz and Ithink everyone should at least give him credit for trying.
    Exactly....No-Mas is a ******

Yeah I actually did gain some respect for him last night for the performance he put on, without alot of grappling etc.. He seems like a nice cool guy probably out of the ring, him and Norman Stone. You got give him credit for the accomplishments he has had not being the most naturally gifted fighter in the world, he made the most of his abilities, became 2 time heavyweight champ, and made 3 or 4 defences. You have to credit to Norman Stone Stone as well despite his antics he seems to truly love his fighter as a brother, John Ruiz.

I've always respected what I hear of Ruiz as a man. He's supposed to be a very nice, generous and kind man. What's not to respect?

I do kinda feel bad for him that his self-esteem as a boxer is so low, but who does he have to blame for that but himself? He chose to fight a style more akin to wrestling than to boxing. He was clearly given a gift over Golota. He expects love and admiration for this?

When he finally decided to try to actually fight, he found out that he has no talent whatsoever, that what everyone was saying about him was true. I guess that could be a devastating blow to the ego if you really thought you were worthy of wearing a Heavyweight belt.

I don't think he chose to fight because he wanted a broader fan base. He chose to fight because he knew Toney has legendary inside skills.
I saw some people on here saying that Toney was doing nothing when Ruiz clinched. How could you miss the long series of red welts that ran from Ruiz's left armpit to his hip? He was so red that traffic was stopping 6 blocks from the arena.

Many fighters (and not just in boxing) have not only lost to guys that they sincerly hate but were embarassed by them. Even still these fighters found it in themselves to give the FANS a post fight interview. So sure it ****** that he lost to a loud mouth Toney but the fact is that Ruiz is a professional fighter and the CLASS thing to do as a professional is to remain in the ring and give the fight fans an interview.

Good point. He fought in a style different than the norm just to please the fans and it amounted to nothing. If he had fought the style he usually does there is a slight chance it would have gone differently. He didnt clinch constantly, and it's obvious it was for the fans, so yes, I have to give him props for that for sure.

No because he lost, simple as that. If he beat Toney I think many more people would have had more respect for Ruiz, but he lost, and he retired.

Do I respect John Ruiz MORE? No, not really. But then I never really had any disrespect for him either.

Your name must be Gentleman Jim Corbett, because only Corbett and Ruiz know what it feels like to lose their titles to blown up middleweights. I thought you died like ninty years ago, Jim.

Hey, schmuck, quit watching Gatti and HBO and learn some boxing. I said even the great Ray Robinson gave post-fight interviews after losing a title. I assumed you knew who Ray Robinson was. I was wrong. You are one of these young schmucks who think boxing started with Gatti/Ward and HBO.

Ruiz tried his best - respect for that.
Ruiz left like a little two year old - no respect for that.

I guess you, Rippuh, and Zeroflip love little two year olds. Two schmucks. You have respect for a man who does not act like man. In my world being a man and facing your responsibilty counts for something. You two schmucks must run away from responsibilities like Ruiz. Rippuh and Zeroflip - cowards, just like Ruiz.

I think VB Martin said it best- Ruiz tryed to box, found out he has no talent if he dosn't hug, what is there left for him to say.

What did you want him to say? Did you wan't him to admit he sucks and he is nothing and he cheated his way to where he is?

No, I think he knew that everyone already felt that way. Nobody wanted him to win, he was boo'ed on the way in, the comentators bashed him, roy jones was sucking toneys **** all night.

His career is pretty much over now after people have seen that he can't really box unless he clinches.

No I will admit that I was wrong in some aspects in the Toney fight, the mention of red welts on Ruiz's side did indicate good body work on the part of Toney, so that was my mistake to claim that is was non-existant.

Being a legendary fighter and staying around for an intrview is one thing, being a fighter nobody likes, everybody wants you to loose, you have no talent but still managed to win the title, and being absolutly embarassed after you were the one to issue an open letter to heavyweights calling them out and claiming your are the best and then get smashed by a blown up middle weight.

Yeah he should of stayed and let larry merchant or who ever insult him and ask him questions about why he sucks.

The guy was so ashamed and embarassed I don't blame him for leaving, should he have stayed? Maybe, but you have to think about what he went through and what he tryed to do and have respect for that.

Ok, so he was ****ing boring, and he got exposed when he tryed to box...he still managed to get in that ring and pull off wins.

What ****in responsibility, he didn't owe you or anyone else a ****in interview, who ever gave him any ****ing respect. There is more to just being a man than your egotistical image of being mr macho and facing every ****ing thing head on. Who really gave a **** about what he had to say? you? everyone was too excited at the marshmallow man that they couldn't give a **** about him.
