  • Do you respect John Ruiz more after last night?

I never thought I'd be posting a thread like this - Hell, at least not sincerely - but I really felt for Johnny last night.

He lost his title for the second time to a former middleweight, but God bless 'im, he genuinely tried last night. He really did, and even gave us a halfway watchable fight.

What's more, while he's continually mocked by fans of boxing (shame on them! ) and isn't respected by his peers, you can see it really mattered to him. This guy even had Jim Lampley advising him (with Larry Merchant hilariously cited as "otherwise committed") on how to win over the crowds.

All credit must go to the referee for working so well and encouraging John into fighting positively, but you get the feeling that, despite Stoney, John is a genuinely nice guy who just didn't have what it takes to win over crowds. And now he's lost everything he had to a guy who slated him at their press conference. That poor guy must be feeling low.

So did he earn your respect last night?

    Yes and no.

Yes, he gained some respect. He fought and lost. The key is that he FOUGHT.

But then he lost all that respect by being a little child and crawling out of the ring to avoid a post-fight interview. Sore loser, piece of ****, baby. Christ, even the legend Sugar Ray Robinson would stick around for a post-fight interview after title fights he lost. But that schmuck Ruiz can't. What a classless piece of crap.

The guy was always an absolute no talent, no personality, zero and I'm glad he is gone from the boxing world.

Classless? Ruiz has plenty of class, more than Toney ever will. As a fighter he's mediocre, but everyone that I've talked to that knows him say they love the guy.

Yeah he walked out of the ring and I applaud him for it. After all the **** Toney has been talking Ruiz didn't deserve to hang around and listen to more. Ruiz has been **** on for long enough. I hope he retires and enjoys the money he's made.

You're just another jealous so-called fan that can't appreciate the brilliant tactician that is Ruiz. He has more born talent in his left nut than Ali, Foreman, and Louis ever had after a decade of boxing, combined!

You are such a ****in idiot. How the **** would you feel after TRYING so hard to put on a good fight, trying to earn some respect and get ****ed over in the end.

Ruiz isn't the best fighter, he is boring as hell, he made the most of what he had and did his best, thats more than I can say for a lot of guys..

After loosing to a loud mouth like Toney, I wouldnt stick around either, I wouldnt want to hear the **** that come out of his mouth.

I have a new respect for Ruiz and Ithink everyone should at least give him credit for trying.
