High intensity interval training is more effective in regards to what boxers do in fights.

I think the long distance running is more for endurance, and like mentioned keeping weight in check.

But definitely like you said, interval training is the way. Minimize muscle loss, and maximize fat loss.

Distance runs are good for weight loss and overall cardio, but sprints and intervals and fartlek etc are better for actual fight fitness.

In the amateurs, sprints/intervals are overall more important because of the length and pace of the fights, in the pros, distance running takes a much more important role due to the 12 round fights, but intervals and sprints are still vital to mimic the ebb and flow of a fight.

I run 5 miles tuesday and thursday and 3 miles monday, wednesday, and friday on top of working out....running really only keeps the weight off. Intense cardio in cycles is good for fighting stamina if you are a fighter.

12 miles is too much i think, I run 3 miles everyday(about 30 minutes) but one day i do it fast paced and the other day I do it at a normal pace, and I never get tired in my fights, but I only fight 3 2 minute rounds which isnt that much

lol clottey is a dumbass..... sparring is the best thing u can do for stamina, not running.... case and point, manny pacquiao spars for hours, so he can fight 12 rounds easily..... clottey runs 12 miles, and is DEAD at the end of a 12 round fight....
