Who beat Ruiz more convincingly? Jones or Toney?

Yeah Jones thoroughly dominated Ruiz. I think John landed one decent punch, a right hand that clipped Jone's face, in the entire fight.

I say Toney, Toney did alot more damage to Ruiz than Jones, hurt him on several occasions and was landing the big right hand counter consistantly and knocked Ruiz down officially. Even though the descision was wider in favor of Jones, Toney hurt Ruiz more than Jones did. Jones did not give him big welts on the side of his body, and did you see the look on Ruiz's face he had the look of a guy that was totally discouraged with no hope of winning.

I'm going to argue that taken in context though, Toney's win over Ruiz is more impressive.

Prior to the RJJ fight, Ruiz was even less respected going into it than he was going into last night. He'd just come off the three fight series with Holyfield ( the last of which was a draw that most felt he lost... ) & the dusultory DQ over Kirk Johnson. Not many people gave him a chance against the physical gifts & superior skills of Jones.
And with good reason as we saw.
But, RJJ had a full 10 - 12 week training camp to prepare for Ruiz, so he was in optimun shape for his challenge.


On the other hand, after the Jones loss, Ruiz enjoyed what were probably the three finest victories of his career over the trio of Rachman, Oquendo & Golota.
Yes, all of them were terrible fights, but Rachman was a very dangerous boxer-puncher & former undisputed heavyweight champion. The same guy that ( for some reason ) so many people are so high on now as a challenger to Vitali Klitschko.
Ruiz beat him convincingly & hurt him two or three times in the process.
Then came Fres Oquendo, who was coming off what should have been a decision win over Chris Byrd were it not for three miopic judges.
Ruiz knocked him out.
Finally there was the nod over Andrew Golota, ANOTHER fighter who had just bested Chris Byrd in a fight but failed to get the proper decision.

Ruiz one them all ugly, but they were solid "W's" nevertheless.
And as a result, I think that he had a LOT more backers for this fight than he did against Jones.

There was a quote about this in a hilarious interview Toney gave to Boxing News. I can't remember what he said now, but the upshot was that he would take on Brewster, I think.

Wait... it was something along the lines of Brewster needing to get out of the division before he gets hurt.

I am of the opinion Jones victory was more total, but Toney impressed me a lot more. He took some good shots from Ruiz, e****ally to the body, and it didn't even phase him. He fought the kind of fight that Ruiz could of easily won but didn't. Toney stood in from of him and traded on a regular basis.

Jones won every round against Ruiz, fighting him in the only way he could. Toney gave Ruiz a chance to win and made him look silly in the process.

jones beat him more covincingly because ruiz could not even touch jones because of the speed . but toney beat up ruiz far worst than jones did . he had bruises all over his ribcage area from body shots and his face was abit of a mess too he ate a lot of counter right hands .

I think that if the fight went 15 rounds that possibly Toney would have taken ruiz out.

I don't think that Jones could have taken Ruiz out given 15 rounds, so in that way I give it to Toney

In the 12 rounds that were fought Jones was more impressive.

Roy's win was way more impressive, and anyone who thinks otherwise is lying to themselves, just likes Toney more, or needs to watch the Jones-Ruiz fight again.

Roy won nearly every round. For the first half of the fight, it seemed as though Toney was going to lose.

Roy hurt Ruiz just as much as Toney ever did. Watch the fight again. It's just plain as day...Toney did NOT beat up Ruiz more than Jones did. Toney and Ruiz were both overweight and out of shape.

If Jones had fought the version of Ruiz that Toney did, he probably would have stopped him.

i would say toney because jones only using his speed and didnt dare to stand in front of him. i think ruiz would knock jones out he if he stand in front of ruiz and trade punches. toney on the other could probably also use his speed hit-and-run but he didnt. he proved a lot.
