He can teach Cotto defensive skills that would help not be so easy to hit.

He can teach Cotto that swinging and hitting your opponents arms when thier belly is exposed for a str8 right is beyond ******.

He can teach Cotto to use jab ALL THE TIME...and to set up everything off it.

He can give Cotto a gameplan in the ring so Cotto isnt backpedaling and running the whole night.

He can put Cotto in a conditionig program that would increase his stamina.

He can put Cotto on a plyometric program to increase speed and explosiveness in the upper and lower body.

He can put Cotto through foot work, coordination and agility drills to improve his agility.

      Rings smarts?
Hopkins the veteran does not fight like the young Hopkins. He learned and Cotto can learn too. The whole chin thing is overrated...I mean damn Cotto has been hit hard in fights and NUMEROUS times before he went down or relented. He could minimize that simply by clinching and changing his style. Stamina ..same thing..clinching will help that because he wont be throwing as much punches or being hit as much.....its not that deep.
Were not asking to increase his speed or punching power or add to his abilty...its a clinch for God's sake

The young Hopkins also had amazing defense he just had a higherworkrate, and his footwork was also better in his young days. Cotto just is not that good. Nor does he have the drive to stop drinking entirely along with work out everyday and live a healthy lifestyle for his career.

I disagree with the bold ones...simply because Cotto is who he is...Like we all know, when your hit you go back to your bread and butter...but some things will stay with you.

The bolded things are basic training stuff.....

              Plyos agility drills....

              Thats elementary.

Cotto is so flat footed an unathletic its a shame.......

I think we lost each other...My point wasnt that Cotto is a better fighter than a young Hopkins or even an old...its simply that EVERY veteran fighter that has lasted in this game has learned to ADJUST his tactics or boxing style to win and Cotto is certainly capable.

I didnt say he could not do the drills....but after almost 40 fights no fighter will be able to increase certain things, just adjust...Paulie can do strength training but he wont all of a sudden start KOing people. Pac can learn some new things but he wont become a slick boxer. Clottey wont start to become faster...it just dont work like that.

i agree cotto need's a corner that will give him a gameplan he does not need a cheering section....also clinching would be a good idea any time he is hurt i have never seen him clinch...richardson has done wonders with both hopkins and shane..if he keeps the same corner he might as well retire cause he is going to get hurt .

Plyometric and agility drills help your foot speed and explosive power....it has nothing to do with what style you bring to the ring...
