He beat a prime Gomez but I wouldn't say a prime Azumah Nelson. Azumah had like 15 fights I think.

Nelson was still green when Sanchez beat him

Gomez was prime and an undefeated KO artist. And, Salvador destroyed him.

Sanchez was something special. If he wouldn't of died so young IMO he would of been the greatest fighter to come out of Mexico. He would of been ahead of Chavez.

I still view him as the greatest Mexican boxer. His resume may not be as good as JCC's but he was better all around, more skilled.

Gomez was a great, great super bantam weight! He never was very good as a featherweight even when he won the title years later he was just average at that weight. I believe when he fought Sanchez, Gomez suffered a broken cheekbone in the begining of the fight. He fought through the pain but it was too much. This is not to take away from Sanchez's victory because Sanchez was a great fighter too, but it just made the great fight a non fight!

What makes sanchez such a special fighter is that people consider him the best mexican fighter of all time and yet he was 23 when he died.As we all know 23 is nothing in this sport.rip sals
