    Compliment? You're not Matthew Macklin.

Macklin should have got the award because he didn't lose last year and he has continued to rise through the world boxing ranks and is now rated number 4 in the Ring Middleweight rankings.

Dunne world title aside was shown to be out of his league at that level. And I'm not detracting from the Cordoba war, that was nothing short of epic. But in terms of fighter of the year, Macklin gets my vote.

Born in Blighty but raised in Ireland he considers himself Irish.

Macklin was born in Birmingham, England to an Irish family, his father being from County Roscommon and his mother from County Tipperary. Macklin and his brother Seamus, also a boxer, spent much of his youth in his mothers native County Tipperary.

You can take Tyson Fury off our hands while you're at it.
