Monte Barrett is the ultimate gatekeeper to the heavyweight division the last decade.he's lost a few but he earned a decent resume travelling all over to fight anybody.he was a fringe guy who was construction worker who had promise until losses to lance whitaker & wladimir klitschko.he was broke until his luck changed vs eric Kirkland(17-1).Kirkland was favored & Barrett knocked him out.Kirkland was to fight mesi next but instead Barrett got the shot.he lost but that's when he started winning.he fought 3 undefeated fighters in a row,beating 2 of them.dominik guinn & owen beck lost their 1st fights to Barrett.Barrett has fought 6 current or former world champs going 2-4.he's had 2 title fights(valuev & Rahman)going 0-2.he's 1-0 in eliminators.his resume includes fights with lance whitaker,wladimir klitschko,mesi,guinn,beck,old versions of tim witherspoon & greg page,Rahman,haye,solis.he's also beaten tye fields & Robert wiggins(solid trialhorse,a step below gatekeeper).carved out a decent career.he recently fought ustinov as well.he's done & been dropped to trialhorse status.
