very underrated in my opinion.I watched 26 fights & he was so outmatched sizewise it's amazing he accomplished what he did.he fought 3 former world champions & his record is 2-2.he beat vitali klitschko & Holyfield & lost twice to wladimir klitschko.he fought between 205-215 normally.he was involved in 6 world title fights with a 3-2-1 record.he got a gift win vs oquendo in one title fight.he's been in 3 title eliminators & is 2-1.he's fought bert cooper(80's gatekeeper),ibeabuchi, vitali klitschko, wladimir klitschko twice,David tua,Holyfield,oquendo(2 time title challenger),golota(4time title challenger),mccline(3 time challenger),davarryl williamson, povetkin.good resume who never ducked anyone but an oquendo rematch.he never got the big fight with Tyson or lewis' but he got an older Holyfield.never made the money other heavyweights did because of his pittypat, defensive style.he had troubles with big men(ibeabuchi & the klitschkos, mccline) but put together a nice resume.underrated in my eyes.
chris Byrd: a look at his career

He has to be given a lot of respect for being willing to take on massive men with huge punches, when he wasn't a naturally big man himself. In his prime he would have given a lot of people trouble. Very, very slick for a heavyweight, but with probably one of the weakest punches out of all the heavyweight champions in history. I do remember him landing a reasonably solid punch to Holyfield's body though. He had a big heart, and a pretty good chin as well. That shot from Ibeabuchi probably would have knocked most other heavyweights spark out. It did knock Byrd silly though.
Very difficult fighter for any heavyweight to look good against. Lennox didn't want no part of him nor Ruiz for that reason. -
BTW, Holyfield started to figure him out during the last 2-3 rounds of their bout if I remember - but it came too late. It was one of those fights that would have been interesting had it been scheduled for 15 rounds. Holyfield would have beaten him in his younger days when he was faster - no question.Comment
