The best thing an athlete can do is to get into the opponents head and muck with him/her/them.

With any sport, one's mental composure become paramount the higher up the ladder you go. What we have here are two professionals in their game. They are just as professional because they can get to such high mental levels and execute under typically high stresses. Add a kink to their mental armor and they are no longer at 100%.

This fight is being held to higher than usual standards by the mayweather group with no basis for their requests.

If you follow the rules and repeatedly come out clean only to suddenly be under accusation by demands, then your mental game is afoul. And make no mistake, this is a demand on the part of the Mayweather crew, with an attempt to put Team Pacquiao mentally at risk.

And let's not say that all is kosher because mayweather will be doing the tests random all throughout as well. The big difference is that his camp initiated this. They pointed the finger, so it's no sweat off of them to comply. The mental burden lays with Pacquiao and his team to prove themselves clean.

The 10million penalty for a breach of contractual weight limit is exaggerated, but not unwarranted considering Mayweather broke contract in his last fight. ON the contrary, there is nothing proven to warrant such stringent (out of the ordinary) testing for illegal substances with either fighter.

From a monetary standpoint, it would seem like a silly move on Pacquiao's part to back out. Maybe yes, maybe no, we'll see in a few day how this irons out.

From a competitive standpoint, it's a smart move to not concede to Mayweather's unwarranted requests. A mentally incomplete fighter is an inefficient one.

It's funny, it's claimed that the reason for such out of the ordinary testing it to maintain the integrity of this competition, yet it seems to be compromising it.
A fighter's mental state has always been a factor in fights ... just ask Margarito after being exposed before the Mosley fight. But as professionals - it cannot be used as an excuse when the results aren't favorable.

And this seems to be the case here - Roach is always in favor of mind games when he and team Pac-man are the beneficiaries. This practice was evident in both the Hatton and Cotto fights. Now that the shoes on the other foot and others are playing the games as well as he - both he and Arum seem to want to regroup and call foul.

I don't think the testing is a real issue with Team Pac-Man .... its having someone dictate conditions to them - that has got their panties in a bunch.

It would seem that Mayweather agreed to all the terms stated by Arum from the get go, and thus far has only demanded his favorite gloves, ring size and Olympic testing as stipulations.

That is an easy negotiation .... by today's standards, considering the amount of money this fight has the potential to generate.

So, Team Pac-Man should agree to the testing, if it is a false implication - to relieve the intended pressure Floyd's team thinks it will have.

Let the air out of the balloon and agree to the testing ......

      And, let's get it on!!!!!

      • Mayweather and them are trying to make Pac do too much, that additional testing is unneccesary expecially since Pac has never had a dirty ua. Floyd must not be sure he can win this one.

from what i take from schaeffer's comment is pac was willing to take a blood test in the middle of training camp and 1 right after the fight.

          that should be good enough.

30 days before the fight is smack in the middle of his 2 month camp.

if he takes something during camp , it'll show.

they also agreed to 1 after the fight. if he's on something before and during the fight , it'll show.
Excellent Point!!!! He is still planning on taking one right after the fight when most likely the accusing starts right? Mayweather is definitely scared of the brutality that is waiting on him. I don't blame him Pac is a beast!!!

If this was a standard with professional boxers this thread wouldn't even exist.
Let me exaggerate for a moment....this is a witch hunt with unfounded accusation.

The difference here is that nothing has been signed so anyone can contest anything that could be used to mentally disadvantage their fighter. Could the catchweights be seen as mental advantages for Pacquiao? Sure it could, but they were agreed to. I'm hoping this is nothing more than a negotiation tactic and a hype job.

Don't get me wrong, I think this is a beautiful tactic on the part of Team Mayweaher. If you can get into your opponents head, you can muck with it and give yourself the advantage.

arum never said for EVERY pound over, he said if floyd is over just one once it's going to cost him 10 million, read it better........

i don't know where everyone came up with this 10 million for every pound, and if it was, it was bad reporting..........

10 million for being over 147, that's what was said, but having blood taken 3-5 times? the urine tests are nothing, pissing is a daily thing, but giving blood no matter how little is intrusive during preparation for the biggest fight of your career, that many times during, that bogus.

before the press tour and after the fight is legit, and it's also saying that manny is going to take them! so why all the fuss? there is no difference in a matter of a few hours in this regard. i'm certainly not an expert, but from people i know who have done roids, there were obvious and lasting effects, and if those are there, it's still leaving the system. i know that there are thousands of different types and ones better than the other, but bottom line, manny has passed all previous drug tests, so why accuse him of something that he really hasn't been caught doing? it's just mayweather games, nothing more. floyd is trying to make a stink and make and take what ever advantage he can, on top of his physical advantages he already possess.

from the years of having watched pacquiao, be it in the ring, out of the ring, training, playing basketball, i don't ever remember seeing any andrew golota style back ACNE or backne on pacquiao. now i know not all roids give people face and back acne, especially if they have a really clean diet, i remember one of my friends before, so, it is possible in that regard, but what i do remember is that when they were taking stuff more for strength than size, they got acne.

also, manny pacquiao doesn't have that MUSCLE CHIN that people who take roids do. when he's cut and shredded he doesn't look like one of those people who's head take a different proportion with that muscle jaw. at least not when i've seen him in person before. just making observations...... not accusations.
