Have you given up on Joan Guzman?

Your right but we all know its part of the game. Its not like Guzman experienced the Fan man falling out of the sky. Gatti, Corrales, Holyfield, Cotto and many more fought with blood in their eyes, broken hands, broken noses and marched on like warriors to win.Comment

Oh, I don't excuse him. Just sort of a matter of fact statement.Comment

That's what I'm saying, I know these guys are warriors and its how they put the food on their families tables. But the plain truth is these guys are to entertain us and if we like them we PPV them and hype them so they get that money. Katsidis is one who does that for us, Guzman on the other hand has not shown the fans the respect he demands from us. With the exception of a few Dominicans who stick with him through thick and thin, I think he needs to show more and has had chances to do so.Comment

As **** as Guzman looked against Funeka, I still think he'd give Kats a tricky fight. We all know that the latter is strictly a slugger, and hasn't fared too well against boxers - i.e. Casamayor and Diaz (both of whom I consider more disciplined boxers than outright sluggers). He might even struggle, who knows. That's what I'm saying, I know these guys are warriors and its how they put the food on their families tables. Then again, it looked as though Funeka was taking Guzman's soul in that fight as each round went on. In all honesty I found it disturbing to watch it go on for that long without being stopped. I really think either the ref or Guzman's corner should've pulled him out - he was being brutalised in there.
Nonetheless, both Funeka and Guzman are dangerous fighters for anyone at 135, and Kats would have a stern test with either of them. I'd love for those fights to happen, though. Kats urgently needs some big names on his resume now, especially since it seems likely that he's inheriting that WBO belt.Comment

Personally I think Kats would slowly take apart Guzman. I think it would sort of play out similar to Funeka, maybe with Guzman taking a couple of more early rounds maybe 3-5 rounds and then Kats because of his relentless warrior mentality he keeps coming at a clowning Guzman and breaks him down in the later rounds with a possible KO or even TKO.As **** as Guzman looked against Funeka, I still think he'd give Kats a tricky fight. That sounds realistic. It happened in both the Casamayor and Diaz fights - they took an early lead on the scorecards and made Kats looks silly at first, but later on he came back at them with pressure and closed the gap (although in Diaz's case, not quite enough, but worthy of a rematch IMO). His style just wears opponents down, sort of in a Margarito-like way.Personally I think Kats would slowly take apart Guzman. Guzman also likes to trade a lot - even on the inside - which would almost certainly spell disaster for him since nobody gets the better of Kats in an inside war. I'd like to see that fight, but not anytime soon because a) Guzman needs a tune-up or 2 to show that he still belongs at the top of the division, and b) there are much better fights for Kats such as Mitchell, Valero, Soto or Funeka.Comment

Very true and Kats vs Diaz 2 is a 50/50 chance on the winner. That sounds realistic. The thing about a Guzman tune-up is he fights like once a yr. So at that rate Kats might be retired...lol
But your right it seems he has to fight a worthy journeyman because he most definitely doe not deserve the big paydays. While Kats deserves those big paydays, he earned it.
Unfortunate truth. Decisions like that are hurting boxing and taking away from its legitimacy.
I actually sat through the fight with a non-boxing fan and when the fight was over the non-fan said, "wow, boxing is becoming like WWE".

After Diaz's last 3 performances, I'd say the odds could favour Kats by as much 70/30 now. If it happens, I want big bets on it. Diaz is on a very big downward slide right now.
With that crazy style of his, you could very well be right. However, he's now a dad (as of a few weeks ago), so he might be inclined to clean up his defence even more and protect his head for the future. Hopefully.Comment
