Lightweight Juan Diaz is going to drop back down to lightweight after his two-fight experiment close to the junior welterweight limit. He talks about what he calls a flat performance versus Paulie Malignaggi and how he wants to go back to lightweight where he has experienced a lot of success as a world champion. A rematch with Nate Campbell and Juan Manuel Marquez are some of the fights he is eyeing for 2010. This exclusive interview can only be found at Boxingscene.com. [Click Here To Read More]

Interesting. After all that talk from him about wanting to campaign at 140, he now suddenly knows his place and runs off back down to 135. :laff2: Good call, tubby. Why not start taking your conditioning seriously and give 130 a try?
Anyway, let us not forget that he is still a force at 135. He had Marquez looking very old in their fight, and thoroughly outboxed my boy Katsidis. Campbell, however, would fuck him up again if they met, and I'd pick the rejuvenated Kats (who's no longer gunshy like last time) to do the same in a rematch.
Against Guzman, though... who knows. Another good pillow fight, I guess? Funeka would murk them both. -

The right move, Juan Diaz can't fight his fight at 140 against anyone that's any good. He should go back to being a major player at 135.Comment

That's a good decision for Diaz, he should hire a top caliber nutritionist/conditioning expert, just like everybody else, and most probably get a new trainer that would let his ass work.Comment

I do not think he was getting good instructions from his corner in the last fight against Paulie. he was old to rush him in one round and the next round he corner was telling don't just rush in fight behind your jab. Juan was looking at his corner man like WTF?? You just told me to bum rush this guy and now you are telling me to fight behind my jab. The game plan was to jab with a jabber and that aint Juan's style he throws punches in bunches wide looping hook and body shots from all angles and keeps coming all fight. Sitting back waiting and fighting behind a jab is not his style. He could fire the jab as he moves in adn then let his hands go but as he said he is not used to that and was not able to do so. The only time I saw him getting off was when he jumped in and fired punches at the same time Paulie was punching. There were some good exchanges like that. I like Juan he is a very entertaining fighter and I would not mind seeing him back to 135 and fighting Campbell or Guzman. I think he beat Guzman in a good close fight and Campbell is alittle bit older might have trouble making 135 and I think Juan could beatr him (minus the cut factor) if they fought at that weight again. As for Funika he is a problem for anyone at 135....LeftyComment

Agreed. What made it so bizarre is that the corner always seemed to be giving him the right advice a few rounds too late.Comment

Diaz is DONE as a fighter. He should really retire because he will definitely become only a gate-keeper at 135. He is still very flabby at 135, so His real weight for fighting may actually be more like 125, but I doubt he puts in the work needed to get to where he really would be a dominant force. He is already giving up. In the interview...it says that when he enters the ring he is afraid that it may be a bad day...once a fighter starts wondering about what type of day he is going to have in the ring, then he is already being defeated by himself. Nate Campbell showed us that he wasn't what everyone thought he was and I feel that most great 135lbers will beat him. He looks worse and worse every fight...Comment
