It gets confusing from there.... Is he American with Mexican blood or a Mexican raised in American culture and society?

Chicanos have been wrestling with this question for nearly a century.

To keep it simple, Duran is Panamanian with Mexican ancestry.

I remember once, posters on NSB ****ting on James Toney calling him ****** just like they're doing to Burner because Toney classified Duran as a Mexican. But the way they were saying was like they didn't even know Duran was half Mexican, i'm sure that was the case.

        Lol, hands of plaster!

On a similar not though, Marco Antonio Barerra's mothers name was Tapia, which he wore on his trunks on a few occasions including his fight with Johnny Tapia.

Personally it doesn't matter to me. Whatever he was or considers himself, Duran was a badass.

There's two ways to say it. Either your saying that Duran has Mexican blood (If you believe that kind of thing.. Blood is blood.) or you're saying that Duran is from Mexico.

The way Burner and Toney said it was more like the latter.

No one can argue with that.

Personally I don't care either, except for the people who think Duran actually hails from Mexico.

When I was really young, I thought he had that to represent Johnny Tapia. As I grew older I thought that was his nickname. Then when I started learning more about boxing I found out that it was his mother's name. Lol.

Im not sure what this really matters. My grandparents were from Italy but I was born and raised in the US. That doesn't change my heritage though, does it?

He certainly doesn't hail from Mexico. And if I had to guess, I would bet he considers himself a Panamanian as I consider myself an American.

I'd love to laugh at you here and break your balls, but I thought the same thing for a bit myself. It probably wasn't until they fought that I found out the whole meaning to it.
