Ouma was another forgettable fight and of course he got Ko'd after that (although that was an exciting fight).
Thanks, you stated my point much better than I did..

Undisputed Middle Weight Champion Benard Hopkins 7/16/05

Rematch Bernard Hopkins 12/3/05 less than 5 months rest

Former 154lb Title Holder and Top 5 P4P at the time Winky Wright 6/17/06 6 months rest

Tough Fighter and highly touted when they fought Kassim Ouma 12/9/06 less than 6 months rest

Former 154lb title holder Corey Spinks 5/19/07

Hard hitting #1 contender Kelly Pavlik 9/29/07 4months rest

Undisputed Middle Weight Champ Kelly Pavlik 2/16/09 5 months rest after being KO'd

Former SMW Champ Jeff Lacy 11/15/08 9 months longest lay off

SMW Champion Carl Froch 4/25/09 5 months rest

Former MW Title Holder and tournament favorite Arthur Abraham 10/17/09 6 months rest

In 4 years 3 months he fought 2 Undisputed MW Champions had 2 rematches with them, Fought 5 other former or current title holders and overall 3 P4P ranked fighters including Winky Wright whom no one wanted to fight at the time he took the fight with him....To say he has lack luster performances was a terrible statement. i think the pressure put on him by the press and the fans for knock outs was what put him in trouble with Pavlik in the first fight....Lefty
Bernard Hopkins was a king at 160 for years. Not just the best, but a dominant force in his weight class that any and all contenders had to beat to be considered the best middleweight in the world.

That was the man Jermain Taylor beat in two close fights. That was the man he was replacing. The previous man to hold his position is a hall of fame fighter. We expected the same from Taylor.

Instead, after Hopkins, he fought a skilled, yet blown up junior middleweight in Wright. Now, people weren't too pissed at his choice of fighting a smaller man because Taylor had just earned a little respect from his last two fights.

Then the fight itself, well, Jermain didn't look the same as he had in the Hopkins fight. He was fighting a smaller man- but ****, this was Winky Wright, so we let it go.

Next defense of title? Kassim Ouma- a smaller junior middleweight of decent reputation but not one of the top contenders to share the ring with Jermain.

So now it's been awhile since being champion, he's fought two smaller men- so what does Jermain do? Cory Spinks. A 154 pound fighter. Again. A guy who got KOed by Judah.

I remember that we were all wondering when he would KO Spinks- he had to- he was Jermain Taylor, middleweight champion, right? Wrong. He won an awkward, ugly fight.

The Pavlik fights, finally against a man his own size, ended poorly. The Lacy fight was- by that point- more like shot fighter vs. shot fighter; who is less done? Jermain got an alright win, but he'd already fallen off.

Then a KO to Froch. Then a KO to Abraham.

Other than Kelly Pavlik- who he lost to- and Bernard Hopkins who he took the belt from, the man who gained most esteem from being a 160 lb contender, an Olympian that beat a legend; Jermain Taylor hasn't fought a man his own size, and not gotten beat, (discounting the shot Lacy) in arguable five or six years since he took on a pure middleweight. Who was the last? Joppy maybe?

When Jermain started so promising, then fought smaller guys and didn't dominate, or look like even a slick, athletic Hopkins, when he looked timid to pull the trigger or boring; it was indeed lackluster. He chose to fight small men and not excite and now, riding a string of KOBY's, I'd say it's done.

Goo dpoint this is the kind of reply I am looking for in my thread. I agrew with you to some point but the case can be made of many top fighters fighting smaller men. the case can be made for Paul Williams fighting smaller men. He recently fought a man more his size with some decent skills and look what happened to Williams? he won a close but contrevesal decision right? Or how about Floyd mayweather Junior he fought some men moving up in weight or smaller men then he? It happenes in boxing you have a title you bring money to the table and people want to fight you even if they have to leave one weight class to move up to another to do it in. It is how the game works case made and point taken it is defintely the knock on him and has been for a while but that being said i think his run of fighters I brought to light is better than most Champs of this era and he can make the case he rally has not taken an easy fight in years no?....Lefty
