Paulie was in such control last night. Juan Diaz came back a little at the end, but Malignaggi had already sealed it. I was impressed.
I also couldn't believe how much better his power is now. And it's not because Diaz has a bad chin. He's actually throwing the right hand with some frequency and power. A year or two ago, it was more common that a lock of Paulie's hair would hit you than a right hand. He actually hurt Diaz several times last night.
It was apparent that Paulie isn't used to hurting his opponent. How do you hurt a guy and then not even bother to follow up? Paulie has to gain confidence in his finishing ability or he'll never KO anyone. If he had kept the pressure on Diaz, I feel he could have TKOed him.
As for Diaz. Time to take a break. He's still young and a year off might do him some good. He's already accomplished a lot but I think he needs to take a year or so to rededicate himself and change things around.
As for Paulie, what's next? Has he finally figured it out? Is this the best Paulie Malignaggi has ever been?
