Do you get all this ' hate ' when it's two Americans fighting?
Whats with all the racial tensions in boxing?

There is no real ' hate ' that comes from the British boxing fans. It's a lot more intense when it's an English fighter vs an American, because of the rivalry that exists in all sports.
So obviously when the Yank comes out, he'll get booed and the people closest to the run way might throw in some insults about him being American. But I don't see anything wrong with that.
It's the way things happen over here.
I know a mate who talks to other football fans on MSN, who support rival football teams. When his team and their team meet, they'll fight eachother. Chat **** about each other's family.
Then, the next day they're back on MSN being all friendly.
Obviously there is race and religion involved sometimes. But most of the time it's just a bit of fun to intensify a rivalry. Football used to, and to some extent still does, have a lot of racial tension problems.
However, that's mainly in mainland Europe.Comment

You answered your question when you acknowledged that the sport is between two men. When the focal point is on just two men in combat all things are magnified. Boxing is not like normal sports, where you just follow one team but for the most part that team is just a team, they do not represent a certain culture. Boxers on the other hand are just one person and people can relate to that.Comment

Anytime we play England in anything i dont think anything of it. I feel exactly the opposite in matter of fact. I am happy for England when good things happen to them. i dont understand this rivalry maybe its just on the English side.Comment

Wales
Scotland
France
Argentina
Germany
Ireland
America
And probably a lot more countries.
It's just the way everything is in terms of competition. That we must beat our rivals and if we don't, we're failures.
It would be boring if us boxing fans just went to watch a fight and sat there in silence.

It's a sense of pride, trying to push your team/fighter that extra bit further. There is no better atmosphere than being at a football match or a big English boxing match.
Do a lot of American's have their favourite NFL team tattooed on their body?Comment
