    ..MAYWEATHER/PACQUIAO Fight Fact, 1 of 5...

This is a little series of 'Fight Fights' that I'll end up posting during the week. You can discuss and/or debate this fact however you'd like.

    And here we go.

FACT: This fight will be contested by the number one and number two guy in the sport, regardless of what order you think they should be ranked. Realistically, if either guy loses they still occupy those two top spots.

Here's the fact. Regardless of what either side thinks, in terms of the fans, this fight will be the biggest fight of either of these guys career. There will never be a bigger fight for either man. They could both move up to Heavyweight and fight Wladimir Klitschko in a handicap match and it'd still not come close to the importance of this fight.

They both need eachother, and THAT is fact. Because they need each other to make THIS type of fight happen. Regardless of how much this fight sells or wont sell (and yes, it will SEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL,) this fight will determine how many fans view their ENTIRE careers. Especially casual fans.

    Vote. Discuss.

For legacy and money, no one offers as much as these two offer each other.

Very true, and agree. On most points.

        a) This is the career-defining fight for both.

        b) They will never sell as much, unless they are in a ridiculous war on Mar 13th and the rematch does better. That is common.

        c) If one guy gets dominated, he moves down the ATG list, down the p4p ranking and down the WW ranking.
As a sometimes Floyd apologist, i can't realistically keep him at #2 p4p if Pac dominates him. That would signal to me that Floyd wasn't the great i believe him to be. If Floyd dominates Pac, that means Pac was never great either. That resord was a mirage.

Generally speaking, ATG's don't get dominated in their prime. Can we agree with that?

        d) This fight is , oddly, MORE polarizing than Holmes-Clooney, even. The comments on YouTube and boxing boards are already ugly.

        e) There is a recent addition to the boxing community that does not understand the sport. That isn't an insult. Just a fact. So, they don't have perspective. It's almost like a teenager who thinks the band they like is "the best ever". They lack the historical perspective to put this fight into proper context.

I think that is true, it is possible for either man to have a big fight down the road but it is fairly unlikely it will match what this fight will be viewed as.

Duran wasn't KOd in 2? He didnt quit in the middle of a fight that he was being embarrassed in?

Hearn's didn't get stopped in the third?

Joe Fraizer didnt get dominated in 2 rounds?

              Do I need to continue?

Despite the fact that Duran lost to the other big 3 he is often regarded higher than them on ATG lists.

That's not true at all. Joe Louis got beaten pretty badly by Max Schmeling in their first fight, and he's still considered a top 2 heavy and a top 5-10 fighter. Joe Frazier got smashed by George Foreman, but he's still considered an All-Time Great.

I agree if one gets dominated, it affects their standing compared to each other, but Pacquiao will likely be remembered as a all-time great even if Mayweather shuts him out, and if Mayweather gets KO'd badly but resumes his career and dominates the rest of his career, he'll be remembered the same way.

I think they both need each other and thats a fact, Both are in there prime and no-one is trying to drain or outweigh each other at the scales. Both would be fighting each other at the prime not a shot fighter, or a distracted fighter.
