  • first 2-3 rds i see it going to floyd. w/ both still fresh i see manny having a hard time w/ floyd's defensive genius. he's going to still catch him though slowly but he'll be cautious still

3-6 rds manny opens up more and evens up the fight. he sees floyd couldnt hurt him and all floyd does is potshot so he'll throw more.

rest of the fight, unless floyd shooks manny, i see him going more and more into his pocket defense and pac breaking it. sure he'll catch manny on the counter but if he's not able to hurt him, manny will just break that defense down.

manny UD 8-4 w/ a KD probably. i see it being an SD still w/ manny winning since some judges will prefer the defensive style of floyd.

I think it's the opposite of that.

Pacquiao's a fast starter, he's gonna take the early rounds, and Floyd's gonna slowly figure him out and start timing him. Then Pacquiao's gonna have to switch it up a little bit.

50/50 but I'm leaning towards Pacquiao by close UD, maybe, MAYBE, late stoppage.

      • I can definetly see Floyd winning the first 3 or so rounds. It will take a time for Manny to realize that he can't be too wild. Manny eventually will become a little more cautious, start landing clean and get a TKO victory in the 11th. That's how I see it right now.

          Damn, hope your right.

I would be content with a clear UD for Pacquiao.

If he can stop him, that would just be icing on the cake.

          • Mayweather wins because of his defensive skills, which will prevent Pac from landing any significant punches and his offensive skills, including his ability to counter better than anyone in the fight business and his quickness. I will give Pacquaio credit. He is quick and has punching power, but so were Judah and Hatton. If he can't land punches, he can't win. In this fight, he will land fewer punches than Marquez, but will end up looking like he did against Cotto. Also, Manny is very easy to hit and will be countered by Floyd all night. By the 7th or 8th round, either the ref or Roach will stop the fight.

              • Freddie Roach said he needs 10 weeks to get Pac ready for Floyd (he originally said 12). What that says to me is that he is going to significantly change Manny's style because, as Roach has stated, what worked with Oscar, Cotto and Hatton won't work with Mayweather. What I am reading on this board from Pac fans is that Manny is going to do the same thing he has always done and they expect him to win that way. That, according to Roach, will get him defeated.

                • Let me start off by saying it's a honor to be on boxingscene. It is the best by far. This is the first post of many more to come.

                  • Most people have two theories:

A.) We'll see a "Manny Pacquiao" fight. In Manny's past fights he used his physical tools; speed and power mainly, to effectivley bully the other guy into fighting his fight- where he could.

B.) We'll see a "Floyd Mayweather" fight. Plainly, Floyd will just look too good defensively, too accurate and fast, and Manny will get flustered, frustrated, and beaten clearly by Floyd's technical ability.

To me, what type of fight it is, in some ways, will come down to who has better ring generalship and can get the other guy to play his game. Will Manny be able to physically get Floyd out of his gameplan, or will Floyd use his ring genius to frustrate Manny and outbox him?

I think Floyd will be able to handle Manny's size and, in reality, show his superior ring generalship and win basically the type of fight the thread starter suggested.

Manny's style is Manny's style. There's no changing it. But they will have to work on different strategy because he's dramatically different from the last four opponents Manny faced. Freddie said they had a Plan A and a Plan B for Cotto (one if he went to war and another if he decided to box/counterpunch), he'll likely need Plans A-R for the Mayweather fight because Floyd adapts so well and can change tactics on the fly.
