Boxing needs it's face-first brawlers, boxer-punchers, counter-punchers, slick fighters, all kinds of styles. I like when a guy is willing to take a punch in order to give one. I know one thing... if everybody fought like (example) Mayweather, boxing would suck. Nobody would ever land a punch. It takes a blend of two different styles to make boxing what it really is.

Boxing is many things, it's not only about 'pure' boxing. When we talk about any fight, we talk about the fight, nobody is saying "Hey, Peter, are you looking forward to the Pacquiao-Mayweather boxing match?", we talk about the FIGHT, because that's what it is. Boxing can't be categorized so easily. People like different styles, different aspects, follow certain fighters for different reasons (and the next man can't understand that, because he's looking for something else in boxing).

I think we should avoid getting too **** about stuff. It's a fight. There are different types of boxers, some are technical, some are traditional, unorthodox, some are all about raw power, some combine all of the above, and so on. If it's within the rules, it's boxing, not some elite club where only certain fighters and certain fans are allowed in. Some fighters (or 'boxers', if you prefer) adhere more to 'traditional' styles than others. It's actually the more unorthodox fighters that make boxing more interesting to me, the ones that make you wonder how the **** did he just do that?, like some crazy prime Jones Jr. move, or how Pacquiao gets such leverage on shots without even having his feet on the ground. For me, the best boxers often retain elements of traditional styles and techniques but add something of their own, and this makes the sport evolve, takes it to the next level. We have to allow it to evolve. It's not like we can stop it anyway.

boxing is what we make of it. Not floyd and a few of his fans telling us what it is.

Good luck with this. Realize you are making a point against popcorn-eating, couch sitting "fans" on this board who would never dare step into a ring. Therefore the ones who disagree with you are only looking at it from a fan's perspective, having no idea what its like to actually step into a ring.

This guy being a "boxing fan" must have not apreciated the "Boxing fight" between Paul Williams and Sergio Martinez last weekend.
