Greatness was an unknown PAC destroying Barrera, or Morales the first to stop Zaragoza, or a young Ali knocking out the old lion in Liston. WTF, Sergio Martinez, who only drew with the quitter Cintron. He may have beat Paul Williams but he didn't take the fight when it was there for the taking. That ain't no way greatness. Give us a break... Martinez like Paul Williams now is being overly rated. Where in the first place, both are only good but not great fighters.
It's ****ing amazing to see threads here now describing Sergio as a great fighter...

He gets robbed against Cintron (who only lost to Margs, who MAY have cheated), should have easily drawn with Williams (could have gone either way) but was denied with an atrocious score by one judge, and his only real loss was to Margs 8 years ago. No one calls him out for obvious reasons. If he were American, he would have been awarded the ko victory against Cintron which he deserved and probably the victory against Williams. It is only now that he is being recognized for his abilities after a mostly obscure existence.
There is no denying his skills, not saying he is the best but he is damn good. If he actually had more than a month to prepare for this fight, it would have been very bad for Williams. Can you imagine if the entire fight went like rd 1-4, likely shutout for Martinez and possibly a ko win.Last edited by mathed; 12-08-2009, 11:11 PM.Comment

Mostpeople on here are quick to hype up a fighter after 1 win or jump off a bandwagon after 1 loss. Especially the newer fans.Comment

Boxingscene idiocy as well. More than half the people now hyping him didn't have a clue who he was before Williams and had picked Williams to win by KO3.
And so the cycle continues...Comment

Of course he is not in the league of Ali, or pac, or Morales, etc...
But he is definitively a current top ten p4p at least in my list.
We all know that he beat Cintron....ther eis no argue on that, and against Williams i think the fight was a draw, but if i had to give the edge to someone i would pick martinez without a doubt.
Paul Williams is a very good fighter...a top class fighter....i mean, that workrate, that stamina, good chin, and that perseverance is amazing. There were some amazing shots from martinez and williams kept throwing back all the time, never retreated.
And what is great is that watching him fight is very entertaining.Comment

You didn't see the Cintron fight. Martinez won and was robbed in more ways than one. (And he was really robbed in the real sense of the term.)Comment
