There was really no one else for Vitali to fight.

Chambers and Povetkin are lined up for Wlad, Cahgaev is recovering, Tua is locked into a three-fight contract, Haye was fighting Valuev and backed out of the fight with Vitali, Toney and Maskaev are old and shot. Vitali would receive no credit for beating top Europeans like Boytsov or Pianeta. Minto is too small. Don King's fighters like Williamson are old and not really world-class.

Valuev says he wants to be Vitali's next opponent in 2010. That would be an good one!

the only thing i see that can merit heightened interest in the heavyweight division is a unification match between the klitschko brothers! But that's not going to happen.
