Mayweather-Pacquiao PPV price could zoom to $75

Boxing consumers may get hit hard by zooming PPV TV price point for Mayweather vs. Pacquiao
: Roach says Cotto telegraphs his punchesGet ready for jacked up PPV TV prices for the March 13 Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao Super Fight.

Butter wouldn’t melt in Pacman promoter Bob Arum’s mouth now as he returns a bout contract signed by the Pinoy Idol to a Monday meeting with Mayweather rep Richard Schaefer.

When Money puts pen to paper, it’s officially on and they can see if Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who supposedly wants the Big One, for his sparkling, new football playpen in Arlington, is all “big hat, no cattle” as the Texas expression goes.

Perhaps Arum is just using the Dallas situation as a level to induce a better deal from the MGM Mirage checkwriters in Las Vegas.

I asked Arum a few days if it is true that the pay per view tariff will be above the $50 mark.

“No comment,” was all Arum said.

Arum told Manila Bulletin’s Nick Giongco that ringside ducats will command $2,500 and the cheap seats will be at $500 (in Las Vegas) so it is easy to surmise that there will no $39.95 or even $49.95 PPV screen price.

I spoke to one veteran TV man who sees the PPV price as zooming to as much as $75.

“They are selling a so called Fight of the Century so it is easy to get more than you would for the Pacman-Cotto or Mayweather-Marquez type fights. Going to $60 is easy, really, and then from there the jump to, let’s say, $69.95 or even 75 bucks is not hard. The economy is improving and this is the dream match the public has pounded the table to see.

“You can’t order up Kobe beef or Wagyu steak and expect to pay chopped sirloin prices.”

The insider said PPV operators are unlikely to object as a price hike jumps their bottom line.

They'd be ****** to do it that high, especially since it will probably have a terrible undercard. They'll probably do it at 60.

I'm not a fan of either fighter so I wouldn't pay 85 dollars for this(I get in HD). I'd just wait till the next day to download it if they do this. I don't think they would be that ****** to do that but it's boxing so anything can happen.

if they think people are willing to pay 75$ for a fucking PPV (with this recession that keeps getting worse and worse every month it passes) they're out of their freaking minds...

I know what HBO is trying to do, but it will FAIL miserably.

At $75 everyone who planned to see the fight will just head to their local bar to watch the fight. This PPV bull**** kills boxing, if they want to get people riled up about boxing get it on a major network in primetime.

If they want to break the record for sales they need to have it at the usual ~$50
