Yeah your right let me rephrase that he never moved up to heavyweight and the time to do something like that is at or near your prime not at 45. At 45 your body doesn't react to training like that anymore. You can't put on 15 lbs of muscle and he would need to do more than that for him to be prepared for a heavyweight bout.

Comments Thread For: Calzaghe: "David Haye Would Hurt Bernard Hopkins"

Bernard Hopkins is telling anyhone who will listen - "I will be heavyweight champion in 2010." Hopkins decisioned Enrique Ornelas on Wednesday night in dominating fashion. He wants a shot at David Haye's WBA heavyweight title next year. Hopkins and Haye are both under the Golden Boy Promotions banner. Hopkins was set to fight Roy Jones Jr. in a rematch in March but Jones was stopped by Danny Green in one round in Australia, also on Wednesday.

        Trinidad
        Tarver
        Pavlik

All favored to win, all were supposed to overpower ol man Hopkins, all got schooled.
I actually picked him to win 2/3 of those and I wasn't confident enough to pick on the trinidad.

Well keep me in mind then.

          Can't see it happening though.

Haye, after Ruiz, is looking at the Clits, if he beats them then he may defend the title once or twice and then he retires.

If he did pull it off that would make him one of the oldest heavyweight champions ever.I just googled it and got George Foreman aged 45

If anything, the less powerful Chad Dawson is a fight that I can see Hopkins losing and would even bet real money on Hopkins losing. Haye? that's a much easier fight than Dawson.

Dawson moves around too much, he holds when he has to, his handspeed is the fastest of the higher weights, his punches are crisp, his accuracy is on point, his footwork is a above average for a LHW, and his workrate is not all that but I think it's enough to give Hopkins a loss. Does he have a lot of power? no. Does he need it to beat Hopkins? no.

I stand by my argument that power does not beat Hopkins.

While I think he is right, It does seem like Calzaghe is trying to protect his only other good career win by assisting Hopkins' career record after their fight.

Can't blame the guy seeing as how bad Kessler and Jones got handled after Joe had trouble with both. (However, I don't think the Jones loss does too much. Calzaghe was facing the great Roy Jones ghost anyways)

It's a ****** match nobody wants to see. I want to see Haye fight Heavyweight's not a 40+ year old Hopkins who would get sparked in a couple of rounds. What credit does Haye get for fighting Hopkins? Nothing. He's old and he's never been anywhere near Cruiserweight let alone Heavyweight.

Personally i think it would be hilarious to see Hopkins get KO'ed but if i was given the choice between that or a Klitschko then i know which one i would pick.

Haye has serious power, that is my only concern with Hopkins facing him.

joe is using common sense. if bernard had any brains he would not take on haye.

he did say australia was in Europe so I guess he has taken one too many punches to the head.
