Comments Thread For: Lopez-Luevano: Juanma Eager For Featherweight Debut

In October, Juan Manuel Lopez suffered a big scare in his final defense of the WBO super bantamweight title. He was nearly derailed in the late rounds by underdog Rogers Mtagwa. He struggled to make weight for that fight and knew a change was needed. He made a fast leap to the featherweight division. He takes on WBO champion Steven Luevano on January 30 at the WaMu theater in New York's Madison Square Garden. The fight tops and HBO televised doubleheader. [Click Here To Read More]

            Juanmaricon???? OUCH!!!!!!

Damm Lopez, Take it easy on my boys. LOL

If I would had been on Juanma's team and after what happen with Matagwa I wouldn't throw him against Caballero or Gamboa just yet either.

Juanma needs to realize that he is not going to KO everybody out in the 1st rounds and needs to work on his boxing skills and combine it with his punching power. When he has proven that he can do that, then he can go against those type of boxers.

Having said that at least he did showed the world that he has courage and a huge heart in the fight against Matagwa and that's something that you can't train.

I beleive that this Luevano fight is a step up and a good measuring fight for his future.

On the other hand, IMO, I think Gamboa's speed and boxing skills will make it an easy fight against Matagwa and even if he doesn't knock him down we can probably see stopage (TKO) do to the accumulation and domination by Gamboa.

I can't wait for Lopez vs Gamboa but I think Arum might be rushing things. Why not let this guys become bigger names first? They both around the same age he just build them and when they become superstars put them against eachother.

this is a good fight. i see that juanma will try to slug it out with luevano early in the round. but luevano will stick to his outside fighting with his jabs. if juanma catches luevano with that rapid combos, luevano will be in for trouble. however, if luevano can ward off juanma with his jabs he has a good chance of taking this fight.

but i pick juanma to win this one. not because juanma struggled to win over mtagwa but because luevano used his acting ability to win by dq over bernabe concepcion.
