Comments Thread For: With or Without a Legacy, I like Roy Jones Jr.

    By Lyle Fitzsimmons

It’s sure been a tough year in the legacy business.

For those who actually have one, that is.

As it turns out, the closest I’ve come to acquiring anything similar revolves around being wished a cancerous demise by M M A fans, having a piece about Bernard Hopkins referred to as “100 liters of cat piss” and being called by far and away the biggest sycophant among today’s major boxing writers.

    Not exactly profound tombstone fodder.

But I suppose it beats being anonymous.

Meanwhile, in the “have actually accomplished something of note” department, it’s a rougher ride.

No matter the acclaim earned over a career’s worth of service in the athletic field of choice, it seems a keyboard-toting basement-dweller is never far away with a binder’s worth of evidence as to why another second in the spotlight – win, lose or draw – will immediately turn it all to dust.

    Case in point: Brett Favre.

You know… the guy from the Wrangler commercials. Remember him?

Just a few months ago, seems every would-be genius with Internet access and an NFL Ticket subscription was reciting reasons why the mercurial No. 4 should call it quits once and for all, lest he erase all the good crammed into a multiple MVP, multiple title game and multiple record-setting resume. Wow! You have to be kidding right? Roy looked like he was just collecting a check that night. Laying against the ropes letting Joe go slap happy is what you call "a competitive showing"?

Wrong again. First off, Hopkins has a record of of 4-3 over the last 5yrs. And in those fights he was never clearly dominated; unlike Roy and his devastating KO losses. Hopkins is also currently ranked near the top in many of the P4P rankings, where's Roy ranked?

And this isn't even about starting a Roy/B-Hop debate, its about the inaccuracy of the article written.

Agreed, this article is factually wrong and misleading too, like it's written by Jones's PR guy.

        And Pavlik would beat RJJ......

          .....
Damn Neils, really? I think even a shot Jones would be big trouble for Pavlik. Too much inactivity and coming off a loss to Hopkins. It all catches up.

The guy who wrote the article says RJJ would have beaten Pavlik had he had first shot at him, so I guess I didn't maybe mean current Pavlik, but what the hell, I'll still say it.

pound for pound/prime for prime rjj is best

Perfect article. Great reading here. All those who remove the intimidation from there hearts and recognize that there once walked the earth a man whom no one had a chance at beating. Sometimes there are people who just can't be touched. Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky, Tiger Woods, Jim Brown, just to name a few. And as for this silly Kelly Pavlik reteric, you guys have no business watching boxing, let alone discussing the sport. No offense kells, but he is living proof of what protecting a fighter to build a record can do. Nice wins over JT, but he'll never beat another elite fighter. Mark my word. Never.

Exactly, I couldn't believe what I was reading when I saw the above two you addressed.

I didn't even mind the begining of the article when he talked about internet keyboard warriors who say ****** **** because he is right, but then he went and said even dumber ****.

Why is this guy even allowed to write articles, seems like a mainstream fan.
