I disagree with the 'if you had Kessler number 1, you have to have Ward number 1' argument.
The number 1 ranking is a matter of opinion and not a linear title that you can win from an opponent.
Some people rate Hopkins as the best at 175, are they really going to put Ornelas above Dawson, Cloud and Pascal should Hopkins get beat in a few days time?
Having said that, I do think Ward has done enough to be rated at the top of the division based upon his resume. But it's not exact science, it's just an opinion. If other people think Bute or AA has a better resume then fine.Comment

Bute and Froch have the best resume at 168. Bute has 4 wins over top 10 super middleweights - Bika, Andrade x2, and Berrio (at the time). Froch has three wins over top 10 super middleweights at the time he fought them: Pascal, Taylor and Dirrell.
Abraham has only one win over a top ten at 168 Taylor, but it was by KO. He also has two wins over a top 15 at 168, Edison Miranda, the second one being by impressive KO.
Abraham's KO win over Miranda in 2008 was more impressive than Ward's decision win over Miranda in 2009.
But Abraham has a held a world title from 2005 to 2009, and had several impressively brutal KOs over top 15 middleweights such as Gevor and Demers, plus several wins including brutal KOs over top 25 ranked middleweights such as El**** and Ikeke.
Ward has faced only 2 top 50 opponents: Miranda, a top 15 super middleweight, and Kessler, a top ten super middleweight. Still, because Kessler is a very good fighter, if Ward would have dominated Kessler without dirty tactics and help from the referee I would rate him higher, #3 at 168 instead of #4.Last edited by Ben_London.; 11-29-2009, 03:26 AM.Comment

No, because he's the best fighter at 168.

Good job articulating your opinion.
Abrahammer is definitely top 3, can't see how anyone could dispute that.Comment
