I've never seen Thriller in Manilla, but I saw Ali on Parkinsons and he claimed the entire white American population were 'devils'. I never got the idea it was some kind of self promotion, they just seemed to be his views which he defended passionately. He is one hell of a fighter though, him and Joe Louis are my 2 fav heavyweights stylistically

Frazier and Ali were never friends, it was actually Frazier who was agitating and calling out Ali (who at that time was out of the fight game due to the Vietnam war controversy) in a 1969 talk show, insulting him by calling him "Clay" and saying Ali was scared of him. Frazier mainly lended money to Ali, defended him and helped him out so he could get Ali in the ring and beat him up in order to call himself the real champ.

Since then Ali and Frazier have made up and became enemies again and again. In recent interviews Frazier has again said that he has forgiven Ali, hopefully this time for good.
The book Ghosts of Manilla (?) is more even handed, and paints a more balanced picture. I guess the documentary was out to get Ali more than Frazier.
Ali was a normal man who had a fantastic gift, probably not as bright as his eloquence would have some believe.
I think that Ali like all of us is neither as good as some paint him or as bad as others paint him the difference between Ali and the rest of us as a human being was he had to do a lot of his growing up as one of the most famous men in the world.
Just think of the mistakes we all make in our 20's,30's and 40's etc?

You are spot on with this and I'm glad somebody else acknowledged the interview in 1969. I believe it was on the Mike Douglas show where Frazier repeatedly insulted Ali and continued to call him "Clay". Not once in the interview did Ali insult Frazier. You are correct that Frazier helped Ali get his licence because he wanted the big money and the recognition from beating Ali. It's unbelievable how naive some people are when it comes to that. The comments Frazier made about Ali's condition and his desire to "push Ali " when Ali lit the Olympic torch clearly show Frazier is no saint himself.

stop being such a big baby, cant believe an immature fool like you who thinks calling someone by his birthname justifies putting a whole race against a man and putting the mans children in danger has the nerve to call someone else naive

i think it has alot to do with ali being a great fighter clouding your judgment, clown

You call me immature yet you come on here talking about your private parts. You're too ignorant to understand the significance of Frazier calling Ali "Clay" so I won't bother educating you on the topic. Hurry up and sign off. You might need to cut the lawn for Mommy.

As a boxer he achieved great things, but as a man he was at best questionable. No excuse for all the Frazier stuff, he also turned his back on Malcolm X as well.
