I always hear about how great Roys boxing skills are. People also say that James Toney has great boxing skills.Would it be correct to say that Toney has the better skills? I think Roys natural athletic ability is what really made him great-not the actual "boxing skills" that he has. Do you agree with my assesment? Later brother brologs.

As for as it goes Roy does not have any boxing skills, its just his talent and athletic ability that won him fights. He never throws any correct, orthodox punches, keeps his hands real low etc..
Toney on the other hand has what is called orthodox skills. throws punches correctly, correctly defend himself etc...Comment

Absolutely Toney has better skills than RJJ. It just happens that Jones was so full of fast twitch muscle fibers and speed that he could do whatever he wanted.Comment

Hey, King Diamond, you actually made a good thread! I must say that my favorite of your albums is Abigail. The Puppet Master was overrated.
By the way, I think that both guys are even in skills but their styles are as night and day. Right now, Toney is better rated but when Ruiz beats him, Roy will top him again.Comment

Toney has the better boxing skills. Jones was blessed with incredible speed and reflexes that allowed him to do just about anything he wanted to. Skillwise he never really did anything correctly and made several mistakes that would of gotten slower fighters in alot of trouble.Comment

Toney's and Jones Boxing Skill
Jones beat Toney when they fought and took toney's belt, So I would have to say that Jones has the better boxing skills, but Toney seems to have a better chin..Comment

As for as it goes Roy does not have any boxing skills,
Wow...talk about an overstatement. As for as it goes Roy does not have any boxing skills,
Roy has never been outboxed by anyone, even past his prime. Toney was outboxed thoroughly by Nunn until he came up with the big KO.
Toney's boxing skills are not neccessarily better either. The only difference between him and Roy is Roy used his feet to dodge punches more than his head whereas Toney used rolls and head movement.
They have DIFFERENT boxing skills, that's all.Comment
