  • Pacquiao's lack of defense concerns me.

I finally rewatched Cotto-Pacquiao. Frankly it was too disappointing, as a Cotto fan, to watch it again, so I held off for a while.

Watching again, I realized Cotto was far more effective offensively than I remembered. He was hitting Pacquiao with flush punches all night. Pacquiao's only real defense was to stick his hands straight up. Not a lot of slipping, dodging, or anything really. He basically figured out Cotto could not hurt him, and walked straight through everything. In his career, and against Cotto, he's been able to do this because of his speed and his overall offense. His chin is incredible clearly, and it's going to be tough for anyone to hurt him.

However, this concerns me about his chances in a Mayweather fight. Mayweather is not looking for a KO like most fighters, so whether Pac can take his punch will not matter as much. The point is, that Mayweather will probably be landing on Pacquiao, a lot. Mayweather landed 59% against Marquez, while Pacquiao landed only 23% on Marquez.

The question is whether you think Pacquiao can land enough on Mayweather, even though he's going to get hit a lot against Floyd. That, or you're hoping for a KO.

If it were not for the knockdowns I would have had the fight even after 6 rounds. Cotto was dominated for the 2nd half of that fight, and was outboxed and outclassed by Pacquiao, but I did see things Floyd would and will exploit should this fight be signed.

    Pacquiao is hittable. Extremely hittable.

I would've had it 4-2 for Cotto in the first 6, if not for the knockdowns.

Cotto lost that fight in the 4th round when he abandoned his game plan and his jab, instead pursuing a fire fight. He was still fighting well, and winning the rounds, but he put himself in harm's way.

How many punches did Cotto land on Pac? Im too lazy to look it up..And if Pac can take Cottos power he should be fine with a leaky defense..In theory..

If Mayweather can't hurt Pac, it's basically over.

If he can walk through Mayweather's punches than he'll take one to give one. Mayweather is going to be afraid to throw anything because of the speed of Pacquiao.

If Mayweather can hurt Pac, then the fight is basically over. Pac would only have a puncher's chance.

why people want to compare the Marquez wins is beyond me. Marquez is clearly not the same fighter at 135+ and given the circumstances of the Mayweather/Marquez fight, shouldnt even be mentioned at all.

Anyone who studies the sport can tell you that at 140 and above, Pacquiao finishes Marquez off.

Having seen PAC workout live literally 5 feet away from me.

After having witnessed what I saw at WildCard a few years ago, the one question that popped up in my mind was, "How is this guy getting hit as often as he does in the fights I've seen him in with all the f**kin' speed and crazy angles"

**actually, when PAC decided to actually slip punches, he made Cotto miss whenever he felt like it, don't be fooled by PAC's machismo that he showed against Cotto, although he's not the defensive wiz Floyd is, PAC's head movement is pretty good, but yeah, Mayweather will land on him for sure, but I think we will also witness Floyd for the first time, get swolled up, who wins, I'm pickin' Floyd, but Floyd ain't goin' away unscathed**

You know, I really think that PAC is so offensive minded, so ferocious, that he really forgets about defense, Floyd on the other hand, is so defensive, that his workrate suffers.

PAC's reflexes is so amazing especially from watching it from 5 feet away. That it makes even appreciate EM and JMM more. The success they had against this phenomenal athlete.

Pacquiao's defence was far better for the De La Hoya fight. His relentless head movement shocked me, and his in-out method of dismantling Oskie was IMO more effective than his gung-ho approach with Cotto.

I don't know which one he should use against Mayweather, though...

Probably, but that doesn't mean that Pacquiao won't be getting tagged all night against Mayweather.

He's right there to be hit.

Pacquiao will try to move his head more against Floyd, because he's smart. But Cotto was not even sharp in the last 5 rounds or so, and he was still hitting Pacquiao flush.
