A small kid from a third-world country taking on the best competition in each weight division and defeating the best fighters of his era regardless of weight. That's a story that will resonate 50 years from now. What are people going to say about Mayweather 50 years from now? What's Mayweather's story that makes him the best of his era? No one's going to care whether or not he was the cash cow or that he had 10 Maybachs or had silk walls in his big boy mansion.

Fairly or unfairly, part of Floyd's legacy is that he ducked the best fighters in his weight class. Whether or not he whups Pacquiao won't change that line of thinking. The story is already being written about Floyd Mayweather's career.

Now, he can change that story by continuing to chase the best competition after beating Pacquiao. Not just beating Pacquiao, but going after Paul Williams, Shane Mosley, even Andre Berto or moving up and taking over 154 or even 160.

If he beats Pacquiao and does all, or even half, of those things, he'll be remembered as the best of his era and one of the best ever.
