I kinda like the fact that boxing is a niche sport. I liked it better when i was the only one who knew who Manny Pacquiao was. Now every ****in kid is wearing a Pacquiao T-shirt like they were fans the whole time or something. I want boxing to succeed, and i want 100,000's of fans to pack a football stadium for a fight, but then i want all those casual fans to just **** off.

Im just saying, when someone comes up to me and calls me delusional for thinking Mayweather beats Pacquiao, it definitely makes me appreciate the fact that boxing is a NICHE sport, and that i only run into a real fan every once in a blue moon. I actually like that.

    Am i alone here?
i get where youre coming from, man...

i love when i hear dudes talk about pac like theyve been watching the dude since his early to mid-20s like legit boxing fans have, then you ask them what they think of some other interesting boxers like paul williams or whomever and they look at you with a blank stare...

i have no problem with boxing being a niche sport...it kind of makes the bonds you have with other boxing fans that much more special, IMO...

sorry if that sounded gay :-)

Its a catch 22. It like how i feel about the new orleans saints. Ive been a huge fan since i was a little kid. And now that they are having a good season and everyone around me is all of a sudden a huge fan and dont know anything. I was talking football with someone who claimed to be saints fan but the name deuce mcalister didnt ring a bell.

I say all of this because yes bandwagoners suck but it happens everywhere best thing we can do is ignore. The pinoy fans who know there **** arent a bother just the senseless ones who can be rude

i know exectly what you mean, i cant stand fairweather boxing fans.

in the uk the other week when the haye fight was on eveyone was saying how brave haye was to get in the ring with valuev. they were talking like valuev was some sort of destroyer and was unbeateable. i couldnt get through to them that haye would win, but not cos he's that good, but because valuevs that bad. then after the fight it was just as bad, everyone suddely became an expert overnight.

but saying that i suppose its good for the sport when it attracts new fans.

At the OP welcome to my world, during Cotto/Pac I had a pal trying to wind me up, I called him a bandwagoner (His current fav 3 fighters are Mayweather, Haye, Pac) he sed how? I have been supporting Pac since Barrera beat Hamed then Pac beat Barrera and Corrales. I asked him if he was sure he sed yh, I duly told him to get the **** outta here, he had heard the commentator say Pac had beat barrera and morales so tried to respew it at me but messed up the names the moron

I dont mind i like it but i prefer them to know some stuff or try to learn about the sport, People just like to jump on a bandwagon, I was the only one in my area who knows boxing that actually picked Mayweather to beat Hatton in 2007.

I had people picked Hatton because he beat Castillo must easier, Much earlier than Mayweather did, I recently asked a question on here about who trained Manny Pacquaio before Freddy Roach got him but no-one could even reply to it in 3 hours even though over 60 people viewed it, Just goes to show how some people are only here because of a certain fighter and they dont really know enough or try to learn more about the sport when they are introduce to it.

One of the reasons why I've never given a **** about how popular this sport is.

and people would try to argue with me using baseless points,

"well, the bigger the sport, the better the matchups".

                Really?

The sport is as high as its ever been in a long while,

and one of the biggest matchups ever, might not even get made.

Hows that for the bigger the sport the better fights get made? Listening to the idiots who were saying **** like that would have you think we got maybe one decent fight a year.

Boxing is not dead, was never dying, will never go anywhere. Theres just too many idiots who don't know how to place things in their proper context.

We're in 2009, not 1949. The amount of choices people have for entertainment these days far surpasses what was available 60 years ago.

The only thing popularity does for the sport is drive prices higher.
