Offensively he has ability, but it was depressing, watching him get backed up.

He can't fight on the inside either.

I think it's that he's can only fight effectively from one range. Very one paced and dare I say one dimensional

Ya. That, and he's an old 30, overrated, and overhyped.

I agree he is going to have to work on improving his inside game against fighters like that. However to be fair it could have been that ward just didn't allow him to fight on the inside.

i think the majority of fighters are too slow against kess, kess can move away and keep the range so they never get on the inside. as for ward he is very quick, not only physically but also mentally he was very sharp last night.

kess was making some very basic mistakes against ward; backing up in straight lines, not protecting himself when he was coming out of the clinches, he didn't seem to know how to fight out of the clinches because he just stopped throwing punches altogether when ward was close. in fact he looked down right amateurish on the inside.

offensively he was off key as well - his lead left hook wasn't used enough, he didn't double the jab. i actually think if kess had adopted a more aggressive mindset of a fighter and not a boxer then he could have had some success in the mid/close range. i think he could have got more bodywork in.

imo he needs a new trainer, but is he too old to change his habits? Maybe.....

the punch i wanted to see more of, and that would have helped kessler the most had he committed to throwing it was the right uppercut imo. from what i've seen of kessler it's one of his most polished weapons and he would have done himself a big favour in stopping ward from getting on the inside

Kessler fought excellently going backwards against Andrade.

There were rounds in which Kessler was the aggressor, and Ward still outlanded and outboxed him.

He constantly backing straight up with his chin up and head down, it was very amaturish.
