False. There's a probably untrue tall tale about Willie Pep winning a round without throwing a single punch.
That story is false so I don't know why you mentioned it.
There are several forms of self defense built around the principle of disabling an an attacker without throwing back a single punch.
Not in boxing there isn't. You tell me one fighter who won a round or "disabled"a fighter without throwing any punches. And the story about Pep winning a round without throwing a punch is a complete myth. In boxing you can't just make an opponent miss. You have to make him pay or the opponent will walk right through you. A good example is Hector Camacho vs Julio Cesar Chavez and also against tinidad. Watch how far his running and lack of offense got him in those fights.Last edited by Calilloyd; 11-21-2009, 07:03 PM.Comment

[QUOTE=Left Hook Tua;6739543]so everyone is willie pep now?
you have to land punches on an opponent to win a round.
making a guy miss more punches shouldn't win you a round.
making a guy miss while you land more punches wins you a round.

When an Offensive fighter throws punches he can also get hit and possibly hurt and have huge chances off getting hit with a big shot.
Defensive fighters can defend and also throw punches especially against fighters who dont defend and score points and win rounds.
Its hard for an offensive fighter to learn defense (like Hatton), but a defensive fighter already have offensive skills because they have to know how to throw punches and it is easier to get better at doing that than defending punchesComment
