I go to a multi-ethnic, multi-racial barber shop. we sit there and talk boxing for 2-3 hours while we wait, or just hang around. Guys talk about who beat whom, who CAN beat whom, and style and technique. Never a racial comment.

Then you come online, and guys are calling each other idiots or ****** or insulting others' nationalities etc.

Whenever you turn on the Tv, you may see guys express pride for their own nationality, but you don't see them insulting others. Then you come on to BoxingScene or Youtube and they spout the racist nonsense.

If somebody says something you disagree with:

Barber shop response: "Nah, man. You're tripping"

    BoxingScene response : "You're a ****ing idiot"
You couldn’t have been more accurate with your post.

    Peace.

That is kinda the thing though. Alot of the time simply rooting for your fighter is equated to being 'ignorant' or 'racist'. When Arreola fought Vitali i was sure as hell rooting for Vitali but it doesn't mean you hate the other guy.

You can root for your fighter without hating the opponent for being something else, alot of people think that you can't have one without the other. Foolish.

I find it pretty mad how sports is one of the only things in life where such aggressive nationalism is actually encouraged instead of suppressed. A big sports event between two countries is basically like a non violent pseudo version of war in my opinion. I think war and the whole nationalistic thinking that goes with it is hardwired into humans and sports and everything that goes with it (team colours/uniforms, football chants (ie. war cries) etc ) is a sort of replacement to satistfy our primal urges for war.

And allot of white people started pulling the race card too. This is unprecedented in history, even in politics you turn on Fox news and you are sure to see some white folk pulling the race card on *****.
The world is racist. Everyone and their mothers are racist. We only respect people from other races if they are completely perfect and saints and they kiss our ass making us feel good about ourselves.
You love someone not your race the same way you love a dog, sure he's different but he looks up to you and gives you unconditional love.
It's a ****ed up world kids.
Boxing just makes this more apparent in grownups.

the thing about the internet as oposed to a barbershop is true, the TS is still right though.

take someone like Klitschko2009 for example, the guy doesnt know jack **** about boxing. he just watches it cuz hes a racist who enjoys seeing white men beat up on black men. would he get the same feeling seeing a white guy beat a black guy at tennis? hell no.

ofcourse there are real boxing fans who support their race too, like carnivore. he always favors white guys but too be fair he does know boxing. same thing there, not a hardcore racist but still prejudice. one of those guys who seem to have no problem with black ppl, but if hes daughter decided to date a black guy it would be a whole other story.
