When a fighter loses a non-controversial decision and their career isn't hurt

This is a fight where it goes to decision... the judges agree with MOST people, so it is considered the correct decision without a ton of controversy, and the loser of the fight doesn't take a really big career hit because of the loss.

I picked Hopkins-Wright. I personally thought Wright won, but it seems like the majority of people disagree, so I'm willing to accept the fight as a justified loss for Wright. His career didn't really take that big of a hit... he was still on the P4P list, and was still considered very dangerous. It was his inactivity that killed all of that later.

What other examples can you all come up with?

I'm not going to mention another, but I definitely won't complain about anyone who thought Wright won. I remember scoring as unbiased as possible and only had him losing by a point (round 8 even), and he was finished after round 10, Wink was exhausted, the weight was too much I think. If I saw it that close, I knew there would be cries about him getting jobbed.

I want to hear your argument of three of these... I get that Hopkins was green against Jones, and had a lot to learn.

Malignaggi was considered a joke until he had an excellent showing against Diaz, wasn't he? Did anyone even pick him against Diaz?

Kessler was swamped in this fight, and I heard a lot of talk about "overrated Euro" being thrown around... it's unfair, but I think this is probably Calzaghe's second best win, other than Hopkins.

Jones was considered shot beforehand because of Tarver/Johnson, but kind of restored that, giving a few people the thought that he might be able to compete that the top level again... but he got shut out. I think that put a major damper on his career, but that could just be me. I do see people picking him against Bernard Hopkins, so...

I didn't see him fight badly, but his body didn't look very cut.

I thought I saw him winning, but I'm not bashful to complain that I'm not good at seeing things unbiasedly, so I try to consider the alternative when it comes to my favorite fighters and their fights.

The vast majority of those had Hopkins winning, so I have no problem with accepting a Hopkins victory.

Up to that point, it was unprecedented to have a clear decision against Wright (other than Vasquez, which I just watched for the first time the other day... Wright dominated other than getting knocked down 5 times, which is pretty much just a deal breaker on winning the fight at that point).

Good list! I can't think of a single argument against those.

              Marg started too late.
              Zab underestimated Baldomir.
              Holyfield underestimated Bowe.
Diaz was bothered by a cut, but Campbell got a fluke win.

Add Hopkins losing to Taylor twice to that list... both were pretty excusable, because Hopkins really put the hurt on Taylor, even if he lost a ton of close rounds.

The biggest and strangest one by far is P-Will vs Quintana. Everyone thinks he lost that fight but this guys is the living legend right now in boxing

Haha, he cleaned that loss up in less than 3 minutes in a rematch.

It's weird, because Quintana drilled him with the same type of shot that he did in the first fight all night, but a lot of people regard that fight as an off night for Williams.
