I believe we are better now then 50-100 yrs ago.

Look at sprinters.. like Bolt, Swimmers like Michael Phelphs,.. a lineman now can probley outrun a reciever from the 50s,

Not only that.. we are living longer now, becoming taller. Back when i was young.. the average height for a man was 5'8.. now its 6'0" ..

So yes.. Fightes now > back then..

We've become more sophisticated in terms of understanding how the human body works, which in turn we are able to do physically more than those in the past.

People have been fighting each other for 1000s of years; it's not like basketball, baseball, or football which are relatively new endeavors.

If you would take quality fighters from the 1910s and 1920s and bring them to today; have them fight once every three months, recuperate from their injuries and let them watch video tape of their opponents they would do just fine in our era.

Take modern fighters back to the 1910s and 1920s, have them fight every 2-3 weeks, have no video tape and I think they would struggle.
            Good post totally agree

If Paul Malignaggi fought in the 50s he would be ostracized for being gay so I've heard not trying to start any controversy.

The Old Mongoose, Archie Moore, was known for the Philly Shell. And I remember Tommy Burns being mentioned as one of the early practitioners of the Philly Shell.

                    Here's a quote:

When Professor Lewis wrote his The New Science: Weaponless Defence (1906), his friend Tommy Burns agreed to pose for the boxing illustrations in the book. Prof. Lewis can be seen demonstrating the safety block with Tommy Burns punching at right.

But Burns was not the first to demonstrate the guard, as Gus Ruhlin (1872-1912) demonstrated it in Professor Donovan’s The Art of Boxing and Self-Defense (1902). There it is called the “double guard” and Donovan directs that “this should be rarely used; and is only really necessary when your opponent brings both hands to play simultaneously or in rapid succession.” So while some similarities exist between boxing then and now, those directions make it clear that differences exist as well. Ruhlin was undoubtedly not the first to use the guard, but his may be one of the earliest illustrations we’ll find.

So that’s the cross arm defense which Moore made famous; next time you’re boxing you might want to give it a try if you’re getting overwhelmed by straight flurries and see if it works for you.

The use of the word evolution in this context is wrong. Sure all of us are here because of the processes of natural selection but because there are so many of us spread out all over the world but able to mingle amongst each other it would be almost impossible for anyones genes to multiply more than anyone elses.
If there was an ISOLATED island where you had a SMALL population of humans, some built and behaving like Floyd and others being different then you could say that people on that island might eventually evolve to be more like Floyd if the Floyds on that island mated and had MORE OFFSPRING that anyone else on the island due to the fact that they could fight off the others for mating rights or that they were more fertile or more attractive. Silly example but thats how evolution/natural selection works in a nut shell.
