Is it fair to compare the two when one fight was billed as a potential FOTY and the other was a bigger guy who was expected to dominate a smaller fighter?
1 million for Mayweather vs marquez is huge given the circumstances.

Miguel Cotto was not a PPV draw at that moment. His best PPV to that date was with Mosley and it only sold 355k.

Where was this excuse when absolutely everyone and their mothers, and their grandmothers were saying that the fight will bomb and the Floyd haters acting like little girls making threads about boycotting the fight like if their money was gonna make a huge difference in the final PPV sales for Marquez-Mayweather. That was all Mayweather. Everyone was saying that if the fight bombs it was Mayweather's fault because Marquez is not a draw and Mayweather was the only name opponent in the fight, everyone was praying for bad PPV numbers. So now that the fight was successful, it was Marquez/Mexican independence day who made it successful.

Where were these fans in the Marquez-Pacquiao PPV, only 400k showed up? weird right? How come they didn't a make PPV for Diaz-Marquez and put it on some special Mexican day, for it can also do a Mill?

The PR vs Mexico rivalry always helps.

Plus the Clottey-Cotto card did over 1Mill viewers. Cotto is a draw now, but he wasn't before. Simple, what's so hard to understand son? I know you're for real too, that's what scares me. Floyd didnt get any attention until his whooping on the Gatti PPV, and still even with that he was only a 400k type of fighter. DLH-Mayweather was both Floyd's and DLH best PPV numbers, and coincidentally the best in boxing history.

ok, so what you're saying is that, after the Margarito fight where Cotto was treated like a foster child, his PPV stock went up just because it did about 100K more than the Mosley fight? So he was a big enough draw for Manny, but not for Floyd? See what I'm getting at? Why didn't Floyd choose the bigger PPV draw in Cotto than JMM?

What you're saying is not making sense. See where I was getting at?

why wasnt Mayweather- Marquez held on black history month or martin luther king day?
floyd mayweather on one side, juan manuel marquez on the other, mexican independance weekend, mexicos top fighter in a mega fight...you got your self a successful event.

top mexicans always sell fights, there is a reason why this fight was held on mexican indepenance weekend, there is a reason why de la hoya-mayweather was held on 5 de mayo. jmm was involved in the highest selling ppv fight below welterweight(400k PPV) before hatton-pac. you might say that he has neer been in the big type of fights that mayweather has been in but mayweather never reached 400k before the de la hoya fight. you might say that few casual fans knew of Marquez and refered to him as "that mexican dude that mayweather is fighting", but it was the same case in the mexican community, alot of people refered to mayweather as "that black dude that marquez is fighting". there is a whole nother market out there with the mexican community and thats why promoters always try to target that market. bob arum has a "mexicans for manny" campaign for a reason. ALL the mexicans were talking about this fight. this fight was all over hispanic television, newspaper, and radio. commentators would talk about this fight during soccer games. the at&t sponsor that GBP was able to aquire was for their viva mexico cell phone package plan. tv stations were running a jmm at&t commercial all day...so on so forth. but all of this was a side of the promotion that you did not get exposed to unless you were latino.

Mayweather vs Marquez could have been in my birthday and still sell 1mill.

I have said it before that it takes 2 to have a successful PPV. My problem is that nobody was saying that Marquez was a draw before the fight, everyone was saying the fight was going to bomb. The fight does crazy numbers and it was now because of Marquez and the Mexican Ind day.
