It appears Margarito took his soul. Looking back at this fight now, you'd have to be a complete fool to think Cotto could compete at the elite level anymore, let alone against the p4p1 fighter of the world at a catch-weight.

Clottey beat the crap out of Cotto and got robbed!

That fight looks exactly like Pacquiao vs Cotto, except Clottey never got out-boxed at any point in the right, while Cotto was out-boxing Pacquiao for 3 rounds before his cracked chin got touched. If Mosley were able to rematch that version of Cotto, he would have destroyed him worse than he did to Margarito. Clottey is known as a "mild" punching welterweight, which is why Cotto was able to make it to the final bell. Roach said Cotto was shot and it's hard to dispute that if you watch the video without bias.

Cotto was always kinda lacking in heart, but MArgarito's plaster hands did some irreversible damage. At the end of the fight, it was sad to see him sound like he was happy just to turn up as though he was a journeyman and not a world champ
