    James Toney vs John Ruiz

Just wondering what your take is on this fight?

Assuming James Toney is in at least the same shape he was vs. Booker, I think this is his fight to lose. The only thing I see stopping him is agravating an injury.

Ruiz has stated he's going to look to use his size and reach advantage to try and jab and keep Toney on the outside ( ) If he does this, he's doomed for trying to stray from what he's good at. If he does what he's good at, he's going to get hit with some flush shots he won't see coming on the way in. Fear of getting hit on the way in is what seemed to spell disaster for him in the Jones fight.

I think Toney will make him pay if he lunges in (along with beating on his kidneys) and pick him apart and break him down.

I think James Toney is going to bust Ruiz up with uppercut and hooks to the body. Unless Toney gets injured he should be able to stop Ruiz or win a wide UD.

Agreed. Why Ruiz would try anything but his gay hold-n-hit style is beyond me.

I've heard that Toney is weighing around 240 at the moment which sounds a bit worrying. Roach claims he'll come in around 225 - 230 which sounds too much considering he was 217 against Holyfield. He was 227 for Booker but that was a workout really.

I can see their thinking - that he'll need the weight to combat Ruiz's mauling and pressing himself against Toney - but I worry that it will affect his sharpness and Toney's ability to sustain attacks into the later rounds.

the weight will not be a problem, it's not like he's on his toes for 12 rounds is it? he need to be heavier in this fight so ruiz leaning on him does'nt tire him. uppercuts coming in will win this fight, ruiz tends to lean forward when he comes in, he's made for toney really.

ruiz always seems to find a way to win, i thought rahman and oquendo would beat him and he won, so i'm not going against him again

Why the hell anybody would rather Toney lose this fight than Ruiz is beyond me. Even if you hate Toney, why not get Ruiz out of the way first? At least Toney has a more exciting style to watch (hell Butterbean is more compelling to watch than Ruiz sometimes).

I never said that I like Ruiz. I hate the guy, he sucks. I don't like Toney either, hes a phoney. When it comes to picking who will win, I will go with Ruiz, because I think he can win, not because I enjoy his fights.
