I agree he needs the right fights. Arum needs to keep him away from guys who can out last him in a war of attrition. And he does need a new trainer.

At least someone else sees the light. He's needed a new trainer for a long time. He should've gotten one after the Judah fight. Joe Santiago is no good because he's been in Cotto's camp when Evangelista was his trainer so he's not bringing anything new to the table. Cotto needs someone who will work him like Roach works Pac in camp and like Roger works Floyd. When you watch them train, you can see why they never tire in fights. Cotto has plateaued because he's been doing the same thing for so long. All he needs is change. And Nacho or Naz, hell even Roach or Steward (anyone credible he's not friends with) can make some great improvements with him. There's no way in hell Pacquiao should've been backing Cotto up. Get him some tune ups and let him fight Hatton in late 2010 or 2011 and see what happens from there. Hopefully he'll do what he should've done after the Margarito fight and get a new corner.

I hope he would take brother ****m but with mosley cotto II as a possibility this wont happen,

I wish cotto would take either roach or richardson, people that can study the opponet and create a plan for him, correct his mistakes and whip him. Cotto has a lot of talent but proper guidance is required at this level of competition

I think Cotto should consider retiring but not do it just yet. The beatings he's taken have been tough but I think he still has a few good fights left in him.

He could fight Hatton but he could also end up fighting the Berto/Mosley winner or loser. He has a few options that can bring him some money stil.

However if he ends up losing and taking another beating on his next fight then he should definitely walk away.

Everything I always said about Miguel Cotto has come to past. People
on Boxingscene used to go at me hard for criticing Cotto but all of it
was true. I mean, I initially picked Pac in the early stages but changed
my tune because I felt Cotto had enough skill and power to neutralize
and beat Pac's speed but again Pac proved me wrong. Also alot of me
backing Cotto was that he became the underdog and I always like to
support the man getting the most flack because that's just the person
I am to try to support and encourage. I have never been a Miguel Cotto
fan but still repsected how he conducted himself and his attitude but I
was always the one who saw his holes even before the Margarito
fight and those on Boxingscene who have read my Cotto posts in the
past know that I have been pointing his flaws out. With that said, I
hope Cotto does get himself together and don't let this fight get him
down. He definitely needs a new trainer who can bring out some
hidden talents in Cotto's fight game because obviously he has reached
his peak and doesn't seem to be getting better or improving and that's
not good when your fighting top guys. Not taking anything away from
Pacquiao because he did his thing but I thought Cotto had a chance
because he possessed the tools but didn't emphasize on his strenghts
to protect his weaknesses. Big respects to Manny Pacquiao and Miguel
Cotto for putting on a great fight and giving the fans and the sport of
Boxing one hell of a match on November 14th.

                Cotto Needs:

A long vacation- work in the gym but nothing serious until his comeback fights. He needs to take time to work on his weaknesses.

Get a better conditioning coach and/or trainer-I cannot help but think that Cotto, during some of the early rounds, while only throwing close to 50 punches looked beat. This is unacceptable. He will never win against somebody with a high work rate. He can't run forever. Meanwhile, Pacquiao, while working hard during the early rounds, looked like he was just warming up. He reminds me of Jermain Taylor. He needs somebody who's going to kick his ass. He should hire Anne Wolfe. Conditioning is more than just "looking great".

He needs to develop his right hand- Marquez kept Pacquiao at bay with his right hand. Cotto's right hand looked grossly underdeveloped. I always knew this but never realized what a liability it was for him until last night.

He needs to work on his weaknesses and stop pretending it doesn't matter. Hopefully in a year's time he'll be a new fighter with plenty of vigor. His skills are too good to allow some fatal weaknesses to make him seem mediocre. Granted, Pacquiao is a special fighter, but he did not show me anything last night that I hadn't seen before. If Cotto had better conditioning and better right hand, last night would have been much different, even if Pacquiao would have ended up winning in the end.

Grit and grace cannot win the day all the time.

Cotto to me, just seems like a guy who doesn't really want to develop anymore boxing intelligence, because he thinks that he can just overwhelm guys with the gifts he's got. That is what separates him from a fighter like Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao seems to be getting better and better. I'm not saying that's not the same Cotto that we've always been used to seeing. He still gets hit a lot and his will seems to fade late in fights. But one thing everybody agrees on and Grustler mentioned it above, that Cotto is not improving as a fighter. The story this thread alludes to points it out as well.

Wow i said this all along before the pac fight and when cotto was looking for a new trainer when he had that fight with his uncle. I said nacho was the perfect fit he knows what does it take to beat pac and he is a good trainer that focuses on boxing skills and counterattacks. Not to mention he speaks spanish and imagine cotto running in those mountains in mexico city he would be in the best shape in there just look at JMM how he finished strong, stronger than pac in both fights.

Cotto needs better stamina he always fades in the last rounds specially when they are pressuring him. He needs to counteratack to back the fighters back that will be less movement and wasting less energy

Roach or Steward will greatly improve Cotto's technical skills to the maximum and develop Cotto's unused talents.
