Can we finally put to rest this notion that Cotto belongs in the Hall of Fame?

Cotto's resume is good, but it doesn't even come close to matching someone like Winky Wright's. And I don't even think Winky should be in the Hall. But this thread is about Cotto.

The proof is in the pudding. Controversial decisions over an older version of Shane Mosley and another iffy decision against a good, but not elite fighter in Clottey. And of course we know what happened when Cotto got in the ring with Margarito, even if you think he was cheated. And then Cotto will always get bashed by his detractors for never beating a reigning champion for a title. I think he gets too much heat for that because Quintana was a good win and I don't think Hatton ever wanted to fight Cotto (until now. Lol)
    he'll get in the HOF.

    hatton will get in too.

So no, gtfo with the hall of fame ****e.
those 2 memorable losses probably is what will get him in.

a memorable loss in a great fight to a top guy > a blowout win against mediocre competition

Cotto has beaten a lot of very good fighters around his weight and he has fought nothing but the best. He fought undefeated promising fighters like Torres and Quintana, established great fighters like Mosley and Pacquiao and tough guys who had a reputation of being avoided for a reason...Clottey and Margarito.

I think his effort against Mosley was great. He outboxed Shane and landed the better punches throughout the fight. Still not enough to get him in the hall, but he still has some time to reinvent himself and hit the comeback trail if he so chooses.
this is a really good post but i don't think manny would have picked cotto if he didn't see that miguel was just past his best and on the way down in his career. at least that's the way it seems to me

You fail! there are boxers in the hall of fame that did way less than Cotto during their careers so Cotto is going to hall of fame.

Cotto has carried the title of Puerto Rican hero with pure class and respect, he deserves to be in the hall.

cotto can still make the HOF if he avenges his loss to margo and beats mosley and clottey convincingly outside of MSG.

Man, I agree that there is a few guys in there that did less than Cotto. But I want it to stop there. The Hall of Fame should be kept for the best of the best.

Sorry, douchebag, Cotto deserves to be in the HOF. He's been amazing champion. Being beat by Pacquiao doesn't mean he doesn't qualify to be inducted.
