Can we finally put to rest this notion that Cotto belongs in the Hall of Fame?

I don't mean to make a thread to bash Cotto to be mean. But this is what a lot of his hardcore supporters said. Even some of his more objective ones. Now I'm not saying he didn't beat decent fighters. But he failed to put up an A level performance against any elite fighters he fought. Cotto's resume is good, but it doesn't even come close to matching someone like Winky Wright's. And I don't even think Winky should be in the Hall. But this thread is about Cotto.

The proof is in the pudding. Controversial decisions over an older version of Shane Mosley and another iffy decision against a good, but not elite fighter in Clottey. And of course we know what happened when Cotto got in the ring with Margarito, even if you think he was cheated. And then Cotto will always get bashed by his detractors for never beating a reigning champion for a title. I think he gets too much heat for that because Quintana was a good win and I don't think Hatton ever wanted to fight Cotto (until now. Lol)

old and iffy Mosley? The very Mosley that the world is crying out for Mayweather to fight?

Totaly disagree with you. He is a Hall of Famer. Margo was a ****ing cheat that should be banned from boxing for at least 2 years.

cotto needed the judges help to beat mosley, miguel is good but he's not an elite fighter...he might make the hall of fame anyway, though, it's alot easier to get in there now than it used to be

And then to cap it all off he couldn't even beat a guy who was smaller and coming into the fight with distractions. Cotto got owned last night. Had no answer when the going got tough.

Cotto's two most memorable fights resulted in him taking two of the biggest ass whoopings in recent boxing history.

So no, gtfo with the hall of fame ****e.

Would I put him in at this point? No. I think he's in that Jose Luis Castillo/Diego Corrales class. Very good, not great fighter. Very good, not great record.

Cotto has beaten a lot of very good fighters around his weight and he has fought nothing but the best. He fought undefeated promising fighters like Torres and Quintana, established great fighters like Mosley and Pacquiao and tough guys who had a reputation of being avoided for a reason...Clottey and Margarito.

I think his effort against Mosley was great. He outboxed Shane and landed the better punches throughout the fight. Still not enough to get him in the hall, but he still has some time to reinvent himself and hit the comeback trail if he so chooses.

Even though I disagree with people about Cotto beating Mosley, I have to say that this is a very good post.
