This was exactly what i was thinking! Why do boxers think they can trade and bully the far superior Pacquiao? His punch output is probably a ratio of 5:1 for every 1 you throw pac will land around 5. WAR suits Pacquiao everytime and he always comes out triumphs when you decide to go all out. It's just wierd that every fighter seems to get caught up in Mannys style and pursue they can beat him at it when his combos vs yours, there is only one winner. Cotto really needed to jab, jab, jab and pick him off but he found himself trading with Pacquiao which surely was his downfall...
Some observations about Cotto

Observations about cotto? the only one that is relevent is this: When the going got tough, he quit yet again. Lost a bit of respect for him there, and lost all respect for santiago, his corner was the worst i've ever seen in a title fight, they werent telling him anything at all that could have helped. i dont think anything would have helped, but it would have been nice to see some kind of instruction in the early rounds when he could have stemmed the flow a littleComment

If there was anything that Cotto showed was a lot of heart. He also showed he had the skills to outpoint Pacquiao but I think that, for some reason, he decided that a war would suit him. Only the man know why, but seems that the preconceived notion that he was the bigger, stronger fighter made him go reckless. I'm not saying he would have defeated Pacquiao but he definitely would have given himself a terrific chance of doing so.
Manny has a great a chin but Cotto should have stuck to the gameplan which failed him. The jab was working great but he decided WAR was the best option which showed it doesn't suit him!Last edited by Uturn; 11-15-2009, 09:27 AM.Comment

I totally disagree and even Cotto haters have given him credit for dying with his boots on. The fight could have been stopped 3 or 4 rounds early, yet he insisted on going on until the end. The ref stopped the fight, Cotto did not qut. He just chose the wrong gameplan and lost to a great fighter.Comment

**** NO!!! COTTO STANS MUST FEEL MY WRATH!!!! THEY HAVE BEEN TALKING **** FOREVER!!! THEY WILL EXPERIENCE HELL!!!!
let's just face it cotto is not in pac's league.
if cotto wants to continue, he needs a new trainer and he needs to take 3-4 fights to get adjusted to the new trainer.
Morales was a true warrior and never ran from anyone. do not mention cotto's name next to morales!!!!
JUST FACE IT!!! COTTO IS A VERY GOOD WELTERWEIGHT... RANKED #2... BUT HE IS NO MATCH FOR A TOP 10 ATG!!!!!

I don't know what other boxing fans look for when naming a quitter, but I don't think he quit. He retreated once he had received a beating because he wanted to finish the fight on his feet, because of pride. Taking a knee or sitting on his stool after 7 or 8 rounds counts as quitting, but that's just how I see it.
The gameplan was not to run originally, he did that to survive. His gameplan was to outfight and bully Pacquiao. Once it backfired, he had to resort to retreating because there was no way out once Pacquiao got confident enough to initiate the exchanges. So, in the end, Cotto tried and fought to the finish, just got outclassed and beat, but you're entitled to a different opinion.Comment
