It's not the first time I've seen such a thing, where a man wins has his arm raised and then collapses into a comma. I can't quite remember who, but there was a champ who won a decision, only to collapse after the cards were read and then die afterwards a couple of years ago.

As I've said, it would seem that his medical state is very serious and whether he pulls through is very much in the balance right now. Here's to hoping he awakes from the comma.

Of course most of all I hope Gorres makes a 100% recovery. Sorry if this is in bad taste, but I can't help but wonder if Pacquiao will be affected by what happened to his fellow Filipino.

I wouldn't consider this in bad taste, it's probably on many a minds right now. Pacquiao is in one hell of a fight to be sure, and such events have the potential to weigh heavily. I hope he can put this issue aside until after the fight. Pacquiao is a true professional, so I expect him to shine irregardless, but such an event as this is beyond unfortunate to say the least, especially heading into such an event as the fight with Cotto.

i think that fight was on friday night fights ~3-4 years ago. the winner retained like a continental belt or something along those lines. sad stuff, hope gorres makes it.

Z was unconscious when brought to the hospital, due to swelling of the brain.
Part of his skull was apparently removed to relieve the pressure, and a coma
was deliberately medically-induced, to avoid further damage to the brain.

The doctors will revive him fron his coma later, and hopefully there will have
been zero permanent damage. However, the work on his cranium will rule
out boxing in the near future, if not for the rest of his life.
