Though I don't like Hatton much as a fighter I certainly respect him and I actually have a lot of respect for the fans I met personally in Vegas when he fought Pauli.

Most of them were very realistic, willing to admit Ricky was a flawed and past prime fighter and very knowledgeable about American fighters as well.

The night before the fight I ran into about 8 Limeys at the MGM Sportbook and we sat there drinking and talking boxing until 9am the next day and they didn't get on my nerves or act like ****s even once. None of them said "Fat Yank" or made a terrible McDonald's joke.

Really I think it's those kind of fans that pressed Ricky Hatton into taking the fights that Calzaghe never did. He felt he owed them to see how far he could go and even though he has failed miserably the fans have never deserted him because they respect that fact.
