The truth is maybe he is a little scared of Cotto and is trying to play mind games, but at the same time Roach made the mistake of not realizing this will probably bounce back at him after the fight. I mean first Roach discredited Pacquiaos win over Oscar bringing up IV-marks to give Oscar an excuse.

I didn't see that in any of his fights, I saw when Lacy and Calzaghe both pressured him he fought off the ropes. Also, he could have been setting something up if you saw something I didn't see. Jones Jr caught Calzaghe with a viscous uppercut when Roy was on the ropes.

he threw the uppercut when he was retreating, not while on the ropes. But anyway, that's besides the point. In round 6(think it was) jones was winning, hitting joe with leading rights and landing the jab nicely, and then for no reason, lays on the ropes and puts his hands up while joe is in the center of the ring.

Alright, I'm glad most of us agree he ain't shot. I give Cotto a good chance in this fight. Dude is still a force to be reckoned with.

I mess around a lot on here Rob, but I do try to balance the silliness with meaningful / serious posts, too.

in regards to your post, i do completely agree. is he shot? i honestly don't think so. did he change style wise after the margarito fight? somewhat, sure he did, but not significantly. roach's analysis can't be taken too seriously because he's only had two fights after his bout with margarito. i honestly believe he was still trying to get his confidence back to the level it was before the margo fight. he's been more cautious and less aggressive.

.. however, is the change permanent? i guess we'll find out this saturday, because with the kind of training camp he's had and supposedly, the most focused and determined he's ever been for a fight - it should be one of the best performances of his career. it'll be a good chance to see if cotto truly changed as a fighter, if he's shot or if this is the rebirth of vintage cotto.

Cotto ain't shot. Roach is just trying to put some doubt in Cotto's mind that he is. I don't think it's working. If Pac wins to bad people will try to use this to downgrade it. But they probably would of done the same thing even if Roach never said anything.
